About you:

• 3+ years of experience in a backend engineering role designing, building, and operating modern distributed systems, using modern programming languages like C#, Golang, Java or Python. 
• Extensive experience working with cloud-based applications, containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• System architecture design experience and understanding; space/time complexity, API contract design. 
• Good understanding of distributed and scalable systems - you can design, build and maintain complex systems with a desire to work on deep and interesting technical problems.
• Ability to work in fast paced teams and comfort in communicating remotely through chat, docs, video calls, and other collaborative online tools.

The role

We’re growing and need to hire a Frontend Engineer to join our global team based in Newcastle!  

You’ll be responsible for creating and integrating features across CHL products with a vision that is technologically future proofed, and in a manner that continues to inspire our holidaymakers across the globe. 

You’ll collaborate with other engineers, working on best practices, principles and patterns pertaining to our technology stack. Working closely with user experience designers, as well as the greater business to ensure products and features are developed to the standards expected by CHL.

To be successful as a CHL Software Engineer, you should demonstrate great skill in creativity and innovation, ability to thrive in a high pressure environment, and possess excellent communication skills. Having extensive experience in software development, with a desire to keep up-to-date with the industry.

Ideally, we would like the successful candidate to be based in Newcastle, NSW. For the right candidate, a remote working arrangement would be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement technical solutions that elevate the experience for CHL's global customer base.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and build out patterns and abstractions that emphasize efficiency, reusability, and maintainability.
• Peer review fellow software engineers' work, offering constructive feedback where relevant
• Contribute to the team’s ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.

Responsibilities 

• Promote and support change management processes at a global level. The GCO Change Management team is a trusted partner in our Global Cloud Service organization.
• Partner and collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners and customers globally to address process improvement and implement effective and resilient solutions.
• Proactively collaborate with global Senior Management and peer Change Managers to ensure we meet OKRs and company priorities.
• Provide training, coaching and guidance of Change Management process to the Global Cloud Services team.
• Participate, influence and lead cross-functional or multiple projects while maintaining the balance of running BAU tasks.
• Play a key role in defining requirements and participating in large-scale/high visibility programs and projects, allowing Global Cloud Services to effectively deliver scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Provide input, document requirements and support the design and delivery of training programs.
• Actively facilitate the creation of documentation and other Knowledge resources, while driving compliance with established Knowledge Management policies, practices and standards
• Good communication is a must. Dealing with business partners is a very important aspect of this role.
• Strong teamwork, flexibility and interpersonal skills are a must. Strong collaboration and valuing other ideas and contributions. The role will require looking after 3 different environments along with other Change Managers in the region.
• Requires attention to detail as the role requires different forms of reporting, pre & post-implementation review of changes, inter and intra-team discussions around change implementation and audits.
• Chair the Change Advisory Board (CAB) meeting, produce the meeting agenda and distribute meeting minutes to stakeholders.
• Participate in external and internal audits as the subject matter expert for Global Cloud Services Change Management, demonstrating adequacy and effectiveness of internal change controls.

Who is the TDO?

The Technical Duty Officer team has a mission to support and protect all of ServiceNow’s public services. This role is unique in the tech industry and allows the TDOs access and engagement with teams across ServiceNow.

We leverage our broad technical experience to keep critical systems running through any event. TDOs execute fixes during Internet outages, hardware failures, configuration mishaps, and natural disasters.

We have a mandate to own these problems and see them through to resolution. Unlike traditional operations roles, we have the sole authority to make any necessary changes to fix issues and bring services back online.

The TDO is the last stop in escalation and always resolves the problem. Our organisation hires subject matter experts in CloudOps, Development, Systems Engineering, and Networking. We provide leadership to a strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. We attack problems from fine grained Linux kernel configurations to large scale capacity constraints.  The TDO provides solutions to ServiceNow’s planet-scale challenges.

• Leverage your extensive system, network, and database skills to provide technical leadership for a team of on-site engineers who are responsible for the availability and performance of ServiceNow's cloud platform.
• Coordinate all recovery efforts and Lead as the crisis manager during all major outages to provide rapid relief and resolution to any issue that could be impacting the operational environment.
• Develop new solutions and build requirements for new procedures and automation and verify that these new services meet our needs before they are released to the production environment.
• Drive organisation-wide change (global) by participating in post-incident reviews, approving new architectural designs, and establishing strong relationships by working with many cross-functional teams.
• Make operations more effective by continually training and mentoring the team on all aspects of the operational environment.
