The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Coke and Iron - Berth and Commodities Handling (BACH) team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Mechanical Engineer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
The BACH team manages our Berth Remediation project, along with other major projects on material handling assets, ship unloaders, conveyors, stockpile yard improvements, as well as various other construction and remediation projects at Port Kembla. In this role, you will be part of a major projects team providing mechanical and structural engineering for a wide range of medium to large capital projects. You will also project manage work packages and support the site construction works as a part of a multidisciplinary engineering and construction team delivering major projects across Coke and Iron.
This exciting and well-rounded opportunity that offers both detailed design and project engineering on one of BlueScope’s major capital projects welcomes both junior and experienced Mechanical Engineers who hold a design background within a heavy industrial environment.
What will you do?
Being key to this role, you will:
- provide mechanical and structural design solutions for capital projects.
- provide technical engineering advice regarding suitable solutions for equipment remediation and life extension.
- manage external consultants to deliver detailed engineering solutions
- prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
- monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
- deliver engineering solutions and services to agreed schedules.
- provide quality, cost effective engineering solutions that meet process functional requirements and operating plant life.
- work collaboratively with and provide technical advice to other engineers
More about you
Supported by a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree, you will have experience in applying your engineering knowledge within a heavy industrial environment.
Ideally, you will bring:
- proven knowledge and a track record of mechanical engineering design, including the completion and checking of detailed calculations;
- a general knowledge of Inventor and AUTOCAD as well as other engineering analysis packages;
- good working knowledge of drafting processes;
- other qualifications and experience within project engineering is highly regarded
- a strong safety focus and the ability to work collaboratively with a team and multiple customers.
