Purpose of the role:
Provide operational systems engineering services to support the trackside systems environment in delivering quality, commercially focused operational systems engineering solutions across QR Network Pty Ltd.
Position Responsibilities
1. Ensure that a high level of efficiency, effectiveness, responsibility and initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures is maintained by the staff in operational systems engineering.
2. Implement the design, development, planning, estimating, maintenance testing and installation works associated with the hardware, software and database elements of our developed operational systems in accordance with customer and our quality procedures requirements. The hardware elements include computer systems, LAN, interfaces and telemetry equipment. Focus on both project and system life cycle is required.
3. Monitor staff activities by conducting audits (under the direction of a Senior Software and Systems Engineer) on and mentoring in the development, implementation and maintenance of the software, hardware and database aspects of our delivered computer based operational systems.
4. Plan, develop and implement training courses for professional technical and user staff in the support and operation of developed computer based operational systems (hardware, databases and software).
5. Supervise the formulation and implementation of software engineering standards and procedures for the design, coding, documentation, testing and maintenance of such software and systems.
6. Maximise commercial outcomes for QR by developing, implementing and evaluating relationship management strategies and by applying high quality negotiation, influencing, resolution and communication skills (verbal and written) to complex situations.
7. Maintain a working knowledge of our customers including other Groups and Divisions in QR, especially in the maintenance, information technology and traffic operations areas, translating this knowledge into business opportunities and communicate this with the line Manager.
8. Provide second line assistance and support to technical/maintenance and operational staff who use our delivered operational systems (hardware, databases and software).
9. Undertake other work as required and directed by the line Manager.
What we are looking for in a candidate:
-Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
-High level of skill with computer languages, development utilities, operating systems and computer systems hardware in real time multi-tasking systems.
-High level of skill in undertaking professional work without direct supervision and exercising initiative in the application of professional practices and taking responsibility for the quality of software and systems development provided by subordinate staff.
-High level of skill in evaluating and integrating business improvement, technology development and innovation to generate commercial advantage and outcomes.
-Knowledge of and willingness to commit to and work within Queensland Rail's values and behaviours.
