Whilst the major banks leverage this capability for their consumer and business clients, our B2B model focuses on enabling other banks, fintech’s and corporates to deliver innovative and competitive payment and digital solutions to their clients and customers.
We are looking for a Head of Operational Risk and Compliance to ensure the effective governance and management of all material operational risk classes and to oversee all compliance with regulatory obligations.
The Head of Operational Risk and Compliance is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and ongoing delivery of Cuscal’s Operational Risk and Compliance strategies as well as the associated frameworks to enable the effective management of risk to support the achievement of our corporate objectives.
This is a highly visible role in the business and will be responsible for the delivery of strategic guidance to business leaders and expert counsel in four key areas:
1. Operational Risk Management Oversight
Lead the delivery of the responsibilities of the Operational Risk and Compliance function in its capacity as the 2LOD under the Risk Management Framework
Implement and embed initiatives to ensure sustainable practices. This includes, but not limited to, providing information, training, advice and tools to the first line of defence to assist them to identify, manage and monitor risks
Provide independent oversight and challenge to the non-financial risk management activities and positions of the business lines
2. Compliance Framework Development and Management
Develop, maintain and monitor the implementation of Cuscal’s compliance framework to support Cuscal in complying with legal and regulatory requirements including:
Maintaining Cuscal’s compliance obligations register;
Developing and maintaining the process for identifying and responding to regulatory changes;
Supporting the first line of defence’s compliance capabilities, including by providing compliance tools, templates, systems and training.
Design and embed a second line assurance and monitoring program
3. Risk Governance and Culture
Support the development of operational risk and compliance appetite settings for the organisation which clearly articulate the degree of risk the organisation is willing to take in pursuit of its objectives
Provide support to develop, implement and review the risk culture framework including regular risk culture assessments.
Actively lead and drive initiatives to instil an appropriate risk culture.
4. Reporting and Continuous Improvement
Reporting and advising on framework effectiveness and Cuscal’s non-financial risk profile to the Executive Leadership Team and Board
Develop and maintain analytic tools that aid effective non-financial risk management.
Ensure that risk management and information systems support accurate, timely and relevant risk and compliance reporting that supports organisational decision making.
About You
To be successful in this position you will have the following skills and experience:
Relevant Tertiary qualifications in a Business, Management, or related discipline (Master’s degree or MBA desirable)
Demonstrated experience (10-15 years+) in operational risk and compliance roles, in the financial services sector, including the design and implementation of effective risk and compliance management frameworks, and a sound knowledge of APRA prudential standards.
Demonstrated experience in building risk maturity and capability across the first and second lines of defence and experience/exposure to better industry practice as it relates to non-financial risk transformation
Detailed knowledge and experience in the regulatory framework governing Cuscal or capacity to promptly familiarise with same.
Strong change management, project management and time management skills with the ability to manage projects from initiation through to completion across multiple projects whilst meeting deadlines and managing a high-volume workload of often-changing priorities.
Strong inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to build effective workplace relationships.
