This stage begins with the invasion of a single red blood cell by a single malaria causing parasite and is a dynamic and complex biological process. How the parasite can subvert the host membrane-cytoskeletal complex remains an open question. We are looking for a scientist who can help us understand how host derived mechanisms enable apicomplexan parasites to invade their host cells. This role will involve the use of advanced microscopy and /or image analysis techniques and would suit an individual who already has some experience in culturing the malaria parasite, or who has worked with other types of infectious organisms. It is particularly suited to someone who wants to be at the cutting edge of live cell, 4-dimensional microscopy and who would like the opportunity to gain some expertise in this area. We currently use techniques such as lattice light sheet and high-speed confocal microscopy as well as AI based image analysis pipelines for the quantitative analysis of live cell data.  The research officer/assistant will focus on the development and implementation of novel microscopy methods to better understand the process of erythrocyte invasion by P.falciparum. Practical experience in the conduct of molecular biology techniques (such as Western Blot, RT PCR, transfection and FACS) and cell culture techniques
Demonstrated experience in data analyses using Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism for basic statistical analysis
Commitment to conducting experiments involving humans, animals & GMOs under strict ethical and regulatory guidelines
