The University of Queensland (UQ) and Thapar Institution of Engineering and Technology (TIET) in Patiala, India, have established a strategic partnership and are now seeking an expert in Computer Science: known locally as The TIET-UQ Chair in Data Science.

The Chair will be a goal-oriented person who has initiative and drive to leverage opportunities and ideally already has international experience.

As an influential member of both universities, the Chair will have the exciting opportunity to establish a Centre of Excellence in the area of data science, computer science, AI, machine learning or computer engineering at TIET in close collaboration with UQ.

What We Can Offer?

This position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment at Academic Level E at The University of Queensland, for a period of five years with the potential to extend.

The Chair will spend 30% of their time annually at TIET in Patiala, India. Accommodation for the extended stays will be provided for the candidate.

An attractive remuneration and strategic start up package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The full-time equivalent Level E base salary will start from $200,200.63 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will start from $234,234.74 per annum.

The University will meet all reasonable removal and establishment expenses. In the case of an interstate or international appointee, an accommodation allowance may be available for a limited period.

About This Opportunity?


More variable renewable energy-based generators (VREGs) are integrated into the electricity grid each year. However, VREGs produce oscillations (periodic energy exchange across system components), which cause grid instability and are a roadblock for the growth of renewable energy. Such oscillations result in reduced VREG production or commissioning delays, which place technical and financial pressure on renewable generators. This project will facilitate a researcher network, from the USA, the UK, India and industry partner Iberdrola Australia, developing innovative methods to identify oscillation sources based on the measurement from VREGs to accelerate the integration of renewables into the electricity grid, paving the way for Australia to reach net zero by 2050.



The aim of this project is to develop a network of outstanding researchers to fast-track innovative solutions to the critical challenge of network instability caused by power oscillation introduced through renewable energy integration into the electricity grid. The project aims to develop new methods to identify the sources of oscillations produced by variable renewable energy generators (VREGs), which will consequently facilitate effective solutions to address system instability caused by oscillations, thereby, reducing the technical and financial barriers to greater integration of renewable energy. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have strong engagement with industry and research partners.



Key responsibilities will include:?



Research

Develop the required oscillation identification methods under the guidance of senior project team.

Draft the milestone reports as required by the ICIRN project.

Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high-quality outlets.

During the Fellow’s three-year contract at UQ, submit at least one project and one fellowship application for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

Contribute to progressing towards the transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

About This Opportunity?

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to innovative research developments within the scope of data management and data mining. This position will be jointly supported by ARC Discovery Project DP200103650 Making Spatiotemporal Data More Useful: An Entity Linking Approach and the Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Information Resilience (CIRES).

This position will be based in CIRES which provides additional opportunities to the successful candidate to work across multiple projects with industry and government partners, providing a wealth of experience in multi-disciplinary teams, research planning, and industry and public sector dynamics. As a research focused academic at level A the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time.

About the opportunity

ARIAM Hub is a collaboration between leading academic researchers and experts from the Australian robotics industry supported by the Australian Research Council to deliver research excellence in robotics for asset management. ARIAM spans 3 renowned Australian universities: The University of Sydney, QUT and ANU. This position will be supervised by Dr Donald Dansereau, head of the Robotic Imaging Lab within the Australian Centre for Robotics (ACFR) at the University of Sydney. The ACFR is one of Australia’s leading robotics research groups, and the Robotic Imaging Lab is focused on endowing machines with new ways of seeing the world.

We are expanding our team and have multiple positions opening as part of ARIAM. We are currently seeking an ambitious and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake fundamental and applied research in novel computer vision approaches to high-fidelity drone-based 3D reconstruction of buildings and infrastructure. As part of the Australian Robotic Inspection and Management Research Hub (ARIAM), this position involves working closely with Hub Industry Partner Trendspek on their precision asset modelling and intelligence technology. As part of the research hub you will have opportunities to travel and collaborate with our partners across Australia.

Our current research will focus on combining novel scene representations and computational imaging approaches to enable greater performance in modelling visually challenging scenes from drone-based imagery. Depending on interest and ability there is also scope to develop novel imaging technologies to further improve performance.

This robotic vision-focused position will advance the 3D reconstruction technology required for modelling complex 3D infrastructure. Key challenges include complex appearance due to reflective and transparent surfaces, complex geometries, and dense occlusion from vegetation.

Depending on ability and interest, candidate approaches can include combining representations and visual processing from the graphics and vision communities, including inverse rendering and novel visual and geometric representations, and novel computational imaging devices and algorithms. This project will offer dramatic improvements in sensing robustness and performance, and geometric and textural accuracy in drone-based 3D asset inspection.

In this role you will:

? work closely with a team of project academics, engineers, and PhD students
? develop and characterise novel robotic vision representations, algorithms and/or imaging technologies
? contribute to the ARIAM Hub’s demonstrator program that will showcase your research and that of other Hub projects
? contribute as a researcher to project report preparation, presentation at internal workshops, and dissemination at top international conferences and journals as well as via internal workshops and presentations.

About This Opportunity
We are seeking an inspired and talented postdoctoral researcher in molecular immunology to join our team. The project will explore the molecular basis of immunity to disease, inter-individual immune variation, and vaccine responsiveness using samples from human experimental infection models or vaccination. The primary focus of the research is to accelerate the development of immunotherapeutics, vaccines and diagnostics against chronic infectious diseases using systems immunology as a platform. It will provide an opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge advances spanning diverse fields of immunology and functional genomics, including single-call and spatial transcriptomics. The work will complement ongoing systems-based and therapeutic development efforts at UQ directed at infectious and chronic disease and is anticipated to have broad application to many disease targets. The successful applicant will be encouraged to pursue independent research interests and supported in their career development.

Key responsibilities include:?
1. Research

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 1 year with possibility for extension . At Academic level A the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $75,808.68 - $100,926.59, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,696.16 - $118,084.11 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About the Role
The research focused position involves both applied econometrics and applied macroeconomics, undertaking directed research on nowcasting and structural modelling as a member of a multi-institutional team.

Nowcasting is determining and understanding the current state of the economy. It is fundamental to macroeconomic policy making. The availability of new data and methods make it an exciting time to research nowcasting and there is the possibility of making a real policy impact.

The position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant “Nowcasting and Interpreting the Australian Economy” (DP230100959). The aim of this grant is to produce high- quality research papers developing novel nowcasting methodologies that will enable the timely interpretation of economic developments. Fiscal policy will be a particular area of focus. This work is intended to inform economic policy in Australia. The research team includes: Dr Tim Robinson, Professor Kalvinder Shields and Dr Yong Song (University of Melbourne), Professor Kevin Lee (University of Nottingham), Dr Luke Hartigan (University of Sydney), Mr David Stephan, Dr Khanh Hoang and Dr Zhuo Li (Australian Treasury).

Your responsibilities will include:

Collaborating with the Chief and Partner Investigators to conduct the research outlined in the grant
Conducting academic/engaged research under the direction of a supervisor
Producing and disseminating working papers and presentations based on academic research
Who We Are Looking For
You should have experience in at least two of the following areas: state-space modelling, factor models, Structural Vector AutoRegressions (SVARs), and Machine Learning algorithms like Recurrent Neural Networks. Additionally, you should possess knowledge of the relevant applied macroeconomic literature and the ability to apply it, including explaining economic motivations for identification strategies in SVAR. Furthermore, you must have knowledge of, and experience in, at least one of Matlab, R, Python, or similar. The ability to conduct independent research, take initiative, and assume responsibility for developing and completing research papers is crucial. You should also exhibit the ability and willingness to collaborate in teams for successful project outcomes, along with a track record in written communication skills.

You will also have:

A PhD or near completion of a PhD in economics or related field that demonstrates expertise tied to the externally funded project;

About This Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead a project to develop a rationally-designed vaccine against malaria.

By taking advantage of recent advances in genomic sequencing, proteomics, transcriptional profiling, and molecular immunology, we have discovered unique targets of T cell responses or antibody responses against malaria. This NIH-funded project will test these antigens as vaccine candidates by engineering novel vaccine platforms to enhance T cell responses and assessing immunogenicity, protective capacity and biological function in pre-clinical models of malaria. By establishing proof-of-concept for rational vaccine design from genomic data, this project is expected to advance the development of an effective vaccine against malaria with implications for other challenging public health threats.

The candidate will work with national and international experts and gain experience in malaria biology, immunology and vaccinology, with a specific focus on novel vaccine technologies including mRNA and viral vector vaccine platforms.

About the team

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space (P4S) is a >$90 million initiative led from the University of Adelaide with more than 35 partners across Australia and around the world. P4S aims to create on-demand, zero-waste, high-efficiency plants and plant products to address grand challenges in sustainability for Space and on Earth. The multi-disciplinary team in plant, food, and sensory science; process and systems engineering; law and policy; and psychology will deliver transformative solutions for Space habitation – and create enhanced plant-derived food and bioresources to capitalise upon emergent and rapidly expanding domestic and global markets. Anticipated outcomes include industry uptake of innovative plant forms, foods, technologies, and commodities; and an ambitious education and international co-ordination agenda to position Australia as a global leader in plant-based research supporting Space habitation.

The School of Molecular Sciences is home to UWA’s Centre for Plant Energy Biology and the research laboratories of Professor Harvey Millar, Professor Ryan Lister and Professor Ian Small, who collaborate as the P4S node at the University of Western Australia. About the opportunity

These foundation postdoctoral appointments in Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology will allow you to start your career in an internationally recognised program of research. You will be mentored in the laboratory of Professor Harvey Millar, Professor Ryan Lister or Professor Ian Small and engage in engage in collaborative research projects across P4S University collaborators and with Industry partners. You will take part in supervising students in high quality postgraduate teaching programmes and in educational outreach activities, and be involved in translation of fundamental biomolecular science to provide innovative solutions to the future of plant use on earth and beyond.

Specific projects you could focus on include:

-Increasing plant protein content with better amino acid balance for human nutrition for space agriculture as caloric replacement and for Earth in higher protein plant food development.
-Building of Synbio parts and tools for using plant chloroplasts as protein production factories (for producing high value therapeutics such as edible vaccines and antibodies, and useful biomolecules such as enzymes).
-Modifying target plants for better hypoxia/low oxygen tolerance to overcome the effect of water clinging to plants in microgravity and better adaptation to hydroponics for virtual farming.
-Synthesizing materials and medicines in plants at scale and/or on demand, such as antibodies, analgesics, neutraceuticals, or plastics precursors.
-Engineering plants for sophisticated spatiotemporal and conditional control of biosynthetic pathway activity, for example tissue or cell type specific production upon chemical/temperature/light induction.
-High resolution and high throughput ‘omics’ analyses of plants to guide biosynthetic pathway engineering and characterize effect upon cellular processes.

To be considered for one of these positions, you must completed or be near completion (3 months or under for submission) a PhD in plant biochemistry, molecular biology, or genetics. You will also have a track record of research output and capabilities in plant biology and molecular sciences. You will possess the ability to work both independently and co-operatively with collaborators and as part of a team.

Research Officer (Molecular Biology/Malaria Parasitology)

Employment Type: Full time (35 hour a week)

Duration: 1-year Fixed Term contract

Remuneration: $96K - $103K p.a. (+17% superannuation and leave loading)

The Organisation
The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) within the Faculty of Medicine & Health is one of the largest teaching and research intensive Schools at UNSW. It is a vibrant School, a place of work for over 240 staff, more than 150 higher degree students, and many thousands of undergraduate students. As well as its location in the Wallace Wurth building the School is physically linked to the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre, which includes access to advanced imaging equipment through the Katharina Gaus Light Microscopy Facility as well as flow cytometry. SBMS also maintains close linkages with the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, the Kirby Institute, the Biological Sciences Building and Single Molecule Science.

The Baum lab (www.baumlab.com) within SBMS aims to translate fundamental discoveries in parasite biology into interventions that will aid the control and eventual eradication of malaria; the lab is passionate about fundamental discovery research, point-of-care diagnostics and the long-hoped for dream of an efficacious, easy to deploy malaria vaccine.

Why this role matters

The position will provide technical and research assistance to senior research staff in activities associated with various elements of research projects, including contribution and application of knowledge in the field of molecular biology, parasitology and computational biology within the School of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine & Health, UNSW Sydney.

Your skills and experience:

A university degree in biological, biomedical, biotechnological or computer-science or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
Direct experience in advanced molecular biology techniques (including PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction and design of primers & preferably LAMP), advanced malaria parasitology experience (including in vitro culture of malaria parasites and their interaction with mosquitoes in a lab setting) and/or direct experience of computational approaches for protein structure design and analysis (including the coding of an application of AlphaFold or other related deep learning approaches to protein structure).
Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including LabArchives or other alternative data storage systems.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.

About the Supergroup
The Teams & Education Supergroup is on a mission to power up design to enable learning, creativity, collaboration, and productivity. Canva’s subscription products including Pro, Teams, Education and Nonprofits are all product led from within the Teams & Education supergroup as well as all core teams experiences such as content management and collaboration. In 2023, we dream of making Canva a household name in every team, with a huge focus on winning teams after seeing huge success of teams growth in 2022. 

So far we’ve launched a range of teams and collaboration capabilities, but this is just the beginning of our journey. As the Design Research Manager for the Teams & Education Supergroup, you will help us deliver a number of critical initiatives to achieve our company-level strategy of driving teams and collaboration in Canva. We want to make Canva the tool that every team - big and small - wants to use to collaborate and communicate every day, from the classroom to the workplace. 

About the role

We’re searching for an experienced Senior Design Research Manager to define and implement the research strategy for our Teams & Education Supergroup. Research projects you’ll oversee directly tie to Canva’s company-wide goals, so increasing user understanding and identifying key product opportunities is of critical importance.  

Your responsibilities include leading a team of 7+ researchers. This role will require you to thrive in a collaborative fast-paced environment, working with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales and everyone else in between. You have deep experience coaching and leading researchers and your communication skills empower you to inspire your teams to dream and achieve crazy big goals.

Your sphere of ownership includes:

• Prioritizing what research is happening across the entire Supergroup, including proactively identifying gaps in knowledge.
• Ensuring all research conducted across the Supergroup is high quality; helping elevate research findings into truly design-inspiring and business-impacting insights 
• Influencing product and business decisions at the founder and senior leadership level, sharing research insights and opportunities, and acting as the voice of the customer. 
• Driving deep understanding and empathy of our diverse users and their needs: users of Canva from kindy to the large Enterprises.

At Canva, we approach management differently than other companies. We call managers “coaches” because this reflects the type of relationship we’d like you to have with your direct reports (“coachees.”). As a UX Research Coach, you’ll work closely with your researchers, unlocking their potential to maximize their own performance. We value autonomy, setting crazy big goals, personal growth, and self-reflection.  

Additionally, our managers are “player-coaches.” This means that you won’t solely be managing researchers. You’ll keep one foot in the craft – this could mean synthesizing findings across previous studies; providing consultative support for designers or PMs conducting research; or even leading your own research projects. 

What you’ll do 

• Build and manage a high-performing team of 7+ researchers. Support them through 1:1 coaching, including shaping research plans, providing constructive feedback, setting career goals, and formal reviews. 
• Develop research roadmaps for the Supergroup, aligned to product and business objectives, and be able to adjust these if/when priorities shift
• Act as a trusted, strategic partner to Supergroup Leads (Design, Product, Engineering, Data) through your team delivering research insights that lead to demonstrable business value. Work closely with Leads to apply research findings and implement them in their short-and long-term strategy. 
• Define the T&E research team’s identity, ways of working, and culture. Create a positive environment of belonging, trust, safety, and inclusion. 
• Working with Canva’s Head of Research and other leaders, contributing to the UX Research team’s overall strategy and goals. Bring your ideas and initiative to level up our collective craft and impact. 
• Creatively build a strong research culture within the Teams & Education Supergroup, including at the leadership level. For example, showcasing research insights in Supergroup-wide presentations and workshops with cross-functional teams and executive, etc. 
• Lead foundational research projects for the Supergroup (which may include leading teams of multiple researchers, vendors, etc.), setting the standard for the high quality of research we strive for. 

Experience you will have:

• The ideal candidate is a qualitative researcher with 8+ years of experience leading research studies: planning, recruiting, executing, analyzing, and activating. We expect to hear examples of how your research influenced product and design team decision-making.
• At least 2+ years of experience coaching researchers - you understand how to make an impact through empowering, growing, and motivating others.
• Experience working with leadership teams; influencing strategic decisions with this audience
• Experience as a Design Research Lead, prioritizing and planning research strategy across multiple projects and researchers. 
• Extremely strong communicator when sharing research insights and user needs, and opportunities/impact. Whether it’s during a workshop, presentation, or even a Slack message - you have an innate ability to rally a team together and inspire change. 
• Deep grasp of qualitative research methodologies. You can flex research plans creatively based on constraints and context, clearly communicating trade-offs to stakeholders. 
• You thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills, autonomy, and driving forward through ambiguity. You can juggle multiple priorities and handle change. 
• Deep experience closely collaborating with product teams (PM, Design, Engineering, Marketing, and more). You enjoy collaborating with stakeholders throughout projects, and consider bringing them along the journey to be an essential part of the process. 
• Experience helping People Who Do Research (e.g. designers and PMs) become better researchers. For example, providing feedback on research plans, interview technique, or final reports. 
• You always keep your ear to the ground for relevant insights happening across the organization, understanding the implications and opportunities, and bringing it back to your team.
• A track record for proactively identifying opportunities to fix problems - whether for users externally, or internally

• B2B research experience with technical customers in enterprise organizations
• Experience leading ResearchOps programs, such as defining recruitment methods for niche participants
