Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.About the Laboratory:The Cancer Genetics and Genome Variation and Regulation in Disease Laboratories collaborate to investigate why some people get breast cancer and how these cancers develop. Using genome wide association studies (GWAS) we have identified over 250 breast cancer risk loci. We are currently performing large-scale pooled CRISPR screens and using assays in these screens to identify genes that impact on proliferation, anchorage independence, and tumourigenicity. We are also examining the pre-malignant peripheral immune profile of breast cancer cases and exploring opportunities for drug repositioning from knowledge of the GWAS target genes for prevention and treatment of breast cancer.Role Purpose / Responsibilities: Applications are invited for an experienced biomedical research assistant to join an established team to assist in evaluating a novel drug for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer and exploring the functional mechanisms behind GWAS targets associated with breast cancer risk.The following duties will apply: Animal handling in primary and metastatic cancer models. Blood and tissue sampling and processing for FACS. Tissue culture and cell and molecular biology assays. Model and promote excellence and integrity, adhering to the highest quality and ethical standards. Ensure work practices comply with the requirements of the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute’s Work Health & Safety (WH&S) policies/procedures and animal welfare. About you: To be successful in this position you are need to have the following skills: Completion of a degree level qualification in life sciences and knowledge in genetics and/or immunology. Demonstrated biomedical research laboratory experience, with expertise in aseptic techniques, mouse work, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and reliable scientific records. Exceptional ability to prioritise and coordinate tasks with flexibility. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft suite and GraphPad Prism. Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable skills: Experience in flow cytometry. Experience in mammary tumour models and oral gavage. Remuneration: Salary range is $78,382 to $85,613 p.a. plus super and salary packaging.
