The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Slabmaking, Refractory Service team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Refractory Engineer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
The Refractory Service team provides a broad range of integrated services including the development, sourcing, installation and delivery of the best refractory solutions for our operations now, and into the future. The team is essential in ensuring the security, reliability and availability of the operational refractory lined units.
In this dynamic role you will support the refractory services of our manufacturing plant by reviewing and analysing operational data, to ensure the lifespan of our refractory lined assets are optimized. Working within a cross-functional team including lab technologists, installation crews, operations departments and maintenance specialists, you will ensure operational efficiencies are maintained and that operational security through loss of containment is never compromised.
This position is a day shift, Monday to Friday. When you join our team, we offer a 14% superannuation option, an annual profit share plan (bonus), access to a number of health & wellbeing initiatives including such as our EAP provider, and fitness passport.
What Will You Do?
In this highly technical role, you will:
- ensure safety standards are never compromised making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified
- ensure the best materials are chosen for application and installation of refractory items
- work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues supporting the ongoing development of products
- manage material budget, costs, forecast and security of supply processes
- assess and analyse operational output - review and develop reporting to make recommendations on improvements and conduct safety and environmental audits
More About You
Supported by tertiary qualifications in Materials or Chemical Engineering or a science related discipline, you will have experience in applying your analytical skills to address process performance. You will also bring:
- a collaborative approach in working with cross functional teams
- experience in refractory services environment
- extensive data analysis reviewing operational processes
- an ability to coordinate technical projects - work seamlessly across business functions to transform market needs into technical solutions
