The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Cokemaking and Ironmaking Technology team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Coke & Iron Product Engineer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
The Cokemaking process is an integral part of our manufacturing operations and is one of the first steps in creating Iron and Steel. In this essential role, you will steward and focus on the quality of our coal and coke production.
With an analytical and scientific approach, you will provide technical advice to the Cokemaking Operations. We will support and develop you to apply this knowledge and develop recommendations on improvement opportunities from concept to implementation. You’ll build a detailed metallurgical knowledge of the Ironmaking process, including our coke, sinter and blast furnace operations.

What will you do?
With your analytical, hands-on approach and a keen interest to grow and develop yourself technically, you will:
- successfully contribute to a safe working environment, ensuring safety standards are never compromised
- identify, coordinate and deliver cost effective improvement projects and outcomes in the production of Coke, Sinter and Iron
- provide technical support, operational data analysis for the day-to-day operations
- coach, develop and liaise with internal resources to enhance capabilities and resolve operational issues as they arise
- become a recognised technical/ metallurgical expert on Cokemaking quality & production
More About You
As a self-motivated individual, you will be a confident communicator who is able to influence outcomes at different levels across the business. You will also bring:
- degree qualifications in Engineering (Materials / Chemical / Process)
- experience and understanding in the technical aspects of a continuous industrial process involving coal and gas systems would be highly regarded
- a technical acumen with the ability to translate technical information into value-add business outcomes
- a willingness to learn and develop your skills with a continuous drive in improving procedures and process
- an understanding that you will be working in areas with high temperatures, with heavy equipment, outdoors, around conveyor and stockpile systems with general lifting requirements
