We’re looking for a highly-skilled technical leader with proven people and development team management experience to lead a team of engineers focused on delivering an amazing experience on Connected TVs.

You will have a passion for managing people and a background in building high-quality front-end applications. You will be able to organise and motivate teams to consistently deliver on significant roadmaps of enhancements and lead a team of high-performing Engineers.

You are adept at explaining and articulating complex technical concepts with your peers and business stakeholders. You will manage multiple relationships, including product managers, senior tech leadership and external vendors.
 

Day to day you will:

In your role as Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for the engineering and people management within one of our high performing mobile application squads inside Nine Product & Technology. You’ll play a vital role in helping your team grow their skills professionally while delivering the product roadmap for a best-in-class news experience for millions of Australians.

The Platform Engineering Manager will oversee and lead the team responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising Rest’s API and Digital platforms, ensuring APIs and digital capabilities meet business objectives, security standards, and scalability requirements. The Platform Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in providing automated capabilities to streamline development and operation of APIs by implementing tools and processes that facilitate API creation, testing, documentation, monitoring, scaling, reliability, and performance.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, document, and execute our strategic vision and set technical direction of our API platform. Set development standards, best practices and guidelines for API development, performance, and operations.
• Collaborate closely with solution architects, technical product owner and engineers to define scalable, reliable, and efficient APIs that meet business needs.
• Manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, goals and performance review.
• Work closely with product managers to ensure APIs are integrated seamlessly into products and services.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, testing practices, and documentation guidelines to ensure APIs are robust, well-tested, and well-documented to minimise the risk of bugs and vulnerabilities.
• Oversee the entire API lifecycle, including versioning, deprecation, and sunsetting of APIs.
• Drive initiatives to introduce observability, monitoring and optimization of API performance, stability, and reliability to handle increased traffic and usage, proactively addressing bottlenecks and issues.
• Implement security best practices in the SDLC of APIs to protect sensitive data, ensure compliance with regulators standards, and manage APIs access and authentication.
• Oversee the release process for APIs in every stage. Have contingency plans in place to address potential deployment failures or disruptions. Drive culture of zero-downtime deployments.
• Regularly update leadership and other technical stakeholders on the achievements, risks control plans and security issues remediation related to our API platform.
• Respond to and resolve technical issues, outages, and incidents affecting API platform promptly. Collaborate with relevant teams to diagnose and mitigate problems.
• Identify, assess, and prioritise risks associated with API development, deployment, and maintenance, and develop proactive strategies and controls to mitigate these risks.
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to APIs. Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, enhance security, and optimise costs.

The Safety/Quality Manager has a direct line of accountability to the Director of Engineering. The SQM is responsible for the maintenance, coordination and monitoring of Leidos Australia Airborne Solutions Engineering's SMS and QMS.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Hold safety as a core value and contribute to the achievement of a zero harm and incident/injury free environment through active participation in all safety program relevant to the position
• Be the Quality and Safety contact for all Engineering staff, promoting a culture that ensures safety and compliance as the company’s number one priority
• Ensure that the Director of Engineering is kept properly informed on safety and quality matters
• Be responsible for the management and monitoring of Engineering's SMS and QMS
• Actively participates in Safety Review Meetings and Safety Action Groups
• Monitor current and proposed relevant legislation and update the Director of Engineering of any changes
• Actively seek to identify hazards and potential hazards - and safely manage them
• Actively encourage a pro-active safety reporting and Just Culture
• Issue, renew, revoke, suspend or restrict Certification Authorisations
• Be responsible for the production, coordination and management of a yearly audit schedule
• Ensure safety and quality audit findings are responded to in a timely manner and associated remedial and/or corrective actions are planned
• Ensure the adequacy of Engineering procedures in providing maintenance services in accordance with the regulations
• Interface with CASA and third party auditors with respect to audits and resolution of any identified non-compliance or non-conformance;
• Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Engineering
