Day to day you will:

About This Opportunity?


More variable renewable energy-based generators (VREGs) are integrated into the electricity grid each year. However, VREGs produce oscillations (periodic energy exchange across system components), which cause grid instability and are a roadblock for the growth of renewable energy. Such oscillations result in reduced VREG production or commissioning delays, which place technical and financial pressure on renewable generators. This project will facilitate a researcher network, from the USA, the UK, India and industry partner Iberdrola Australia, developing innovative methods to identify oscillation sources based on the measurement from VREGs to accelerate the integration of renewables into the electricity grid, paving the way for Australia to reach net zero by 2050.



The aim of this project is to develop a network of outstanding researchers to fast-track innovative solutions to the critical challenge of network instability caused by power oscillation introduced through renewable energy integration into the electricity grid. The project aims to develop new methods to identify the sources of oscillations produced by variable renewable energy generators (VREGs), which will consequently facilitate effective solutions to address system instability caused by oscillations, thereby, reducing the technical and financial barriers to greater integration of renewable energy. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have strong engagement with industry and research partners.



Key responsibilities will include:?



Research

Develop the required oscillation identification methods under the guidance of senior project team.

Draft the milestone reports as required by the ICIRN project.

Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high-quality outlets.

During the Fellow’s three-year contract at UQ, submit at least one project and one fellowship application for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

Contribute to progressing towards the transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to innovative research developments within the scope of data management and data mining. This position will be jointly supported by ARC Discovery Project DP200103650 Making Spatiotemporal Data More Useful: An Entity Linking Approach and the Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Information Resilience (CIRES).

This position will be based in CIRES which provides additional opportunities to the successful candidate to work across multiple projects with industry and government partners, providing a wealth of experience in multi-disciplinary teams, research planning, and industry and public sector dynamics. As a research focused academic at level A the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time.

ARIAM Hub is a collaboration between leading academic researchers and experts from the Australian robotics industry supported by the Australian Research Council to deliver research excellence in robotics for asset management. ARIAM spans 3 renowned Australian universities: The University of Sydney, QUT and ANU. This position will be supervised by Dr Donald Dansereau, head of the Robotic Imaging Lab within the Australian Centre for Robotics (ACFR) at the University of Sydney. The ACFR is one of Australia’s leading robotics research groups, and the Robotic Imaging Lab is focused on endowing machines with new ways of seeing the world.

We are expanding our team and have multiple positions opening as part of ARIAM. We are currently seeking an ambitious and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake fundamental and applied research in novel computer vision approaches to high-fidelity drone-based 3D reconstruction of buildings and infrastructure. As part of the Australian Robotic Inspection and Management Research Hub (ARIAM), this position involves working closely with Hub Industry Partner Trendspek on their precision asset modelling and intelligence technology. As part of the research hub you will have opportunities to travel and collaborate with our partners across Australia.

Our current research will focus on combining novel scene representations and computational imaging approaches to enable greater performance in modelling visually challenging scenes from drone-based imagery. Depending on interest and ability there is also scope to develop novel imaging technologies to further improve performance.

This robotic vision-focused position will advance the 3D reconstruction technology required for modelling complex 3D infrastructure. Key challenges include complex appearance due to reflective and transparent surfaces, complex geometries, and dense occlusion from vegetation.

Depending on ability and interest, candidate approaches can include combining representations and visual processing from the graphics and vision communities, including inverse rendering and novel visual and geometric representations, and novel computational imaging devices and algorithms. This project will offer dramatic improvements in sensing robustness and performance, and geometric and textural accuracy in drone-based 3D asset inspection.

? skills relevant to robotic imaging in visually challenging conditions, outstanding candidates with skills in robotics including navigation, planning, and active perception are also strongly encouraged to apply
? a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field
? knowledge of computer vision technologies including approaches to visual 3D reconstruction
? knowledge of appearance-based scene representations including light fields and neurally regressed radiance fields would be an asset
? a desire to advance 3D reconstruction from drone-based imagery using novel scene representations, visual processing, and computational imaging techniques
? experience with one or more programming languages (C, C++, C#, Python, Matlab)
? proven ability to conduct high quality research, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications
? an ability to coordinate multiple project objectives to meet established targets and deadlines
? excellent communication and interpersonal skills
? hands-on experience with robotic platforms, ROS, and/or deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow and others), and OpenCV would be an asset
? a history of research excellence evidenced by prizes or awards, relative to experience, would be an asset

Research Assistant View Position Description Experienced biomedical research assistant Brisbane Location Attractive salary packaging & superannuation options About QIMR Berghofer:QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Mental Health and Neuroscience, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.About the Laboratory:The Cancer Genetics and Genome Variation and Regulation in Disease Laboratories collaborate to investigate why some people get breast cancer and how these cancers develop. Using genome wide association studies (GWAS) we have identified over 250 breast cancer risk loci. We are currently performing large-scale pooled CRISPR screens and using assays in these screens to identify genes that impact on proliferation, anchorage independence, and tumourigenicity. We are also examining the pre-malignant peripheral immune profile of breast cancer cases and exploring opportunities for drug repositioning from knowledge of the GWAS target genes for prevention and treatment of breast cancer.Role Purpose / Responsibilities:  Applications are invited for an experienced biomedical research assistant to join an established team to assist in evaluating a novel drug for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer and exploring the functional mechanisms behind GWAS targets associated with breast cancer risk.The following duties will apply: Animal handling in primary and metastatic cancer models. Blood and tissue sampling and processing for FACS. Tissue culture and cell and molecular biology assays. Model and promote excellence and integrity, adhering to the highest quality and ethical standards. Ensure work practices comply with the requirements of the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute’s Work Health & Safety (WH&S) policies/procedures and animal welfare. About you: To be successful in this position you are need to have the following skills: Completion of a degree level qualification in life sciences and knowledge in genetics and/or immunology. Demonstrated biomedical research laboratory experience, with expertise in aseptic techniques, mouse work, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and reliable scientific records. Exceptional ability to prioritise and coordinate tasks with flexibility. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft suite and GraphPad Prism. Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable skills: Experience in flow cytometry. Experience in mammary tumour models and oral gavage. Remuneration: Salary range is $78,382 to $85,613 p.a. plus super and salary packaging.
