The Asset Department at Hume City Council are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Road Maintenance team.

What you’ll be doing:

• Maintain Council's roads and drainage infrastructure in a safe, clean and structurally sound conditions
• Assist in the provision of road maintenance services in accordance with the Hume Road Management Plan.
• Perform preventative maintenance on Council's plant and equipment by conducting daily pre and post shift checks by carrying out and running repairs where required.
• Efficient and competent operation of plant and equipment and effective maintenance procedures.
• Achieve safety, quality standards and service levels of road maintenance.
• Drive Council maintenance vehicles to 22.4 tonnes G.C.M. and tow a trailer over > 750kg when necessary. 
• Maintain vehicles and trailers e.g. check and maintain fuel, oil, water, lights and tyres, reporting any defects or malfunctions to mechanical maintenance staff and conduct minor maintenance as required. 
• Contribute to the development and monitor road, drainage and roadside programs.
• To assist in the development of maintenance programs & to develop and facilitate effective reactive maintenance works procedures and responses that are in accordance with industry service levels for the maintenance activities defined in the Road Management Plan. 

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• A demonstrated understanding of municipal maintenance operations and practices. 
• Good written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication techniques. 
• Ability to gain co-operation and communicate verbally to a broad range of people form diverse backgrounds and cultures. 
• Basic awareness of relevant legislation including, "Road Management Act 2004". 
• Knowledge of Works Programming, plant & equipment selection.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

• Certificate III in Civil Construction/ Plant or substantial relevant experience in the field of road maintenance with lesser formal qualifications. 
• Several years of experience in the field of road maintenance or a similar maintenance environment.
•  Current driver's licence.
• Heavy rigid truck licence. 
• Certificate of competency to operate plant including grader, backhoes and loaders. 
• Forklift licence 
• WH&S White/Red Card 
• Control traffic with Stop-Slow bat  
• Implement Traffic Management Plans

Looking for a motivated Environmental Services Officer to assist with the delivery of Environmental Services programs.

What you’ll be doing:

• Carry out Environmental Services waste and litter programs including:
  • Roadside waste collection
  • Shop cleaning
  • Litter collection
  • Dead animal and syringe collection
  • Smoker’s pole clearances
• Respond to work requests through Hume’s CRM including updating job notes, attaching photos and closing out or referring jobs as necessary.
• Operate all types of waste and litter collection vehicles.
• Where necessary assist with the domestic waste collection program by driving the vehicle and emptying bins in accordance with approved programs.
• Conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on a daily basis in accordance with approved pre-start and post checklists and maintenance programs.
• Carry out collection and disposal programs in accordance with Council’s Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for staff and contractors.
• Dispose of waste and litter collected at Council’s resource recovery centres as required.
• Comply with the quality and safety systems requirements by completing appropriate paperwork.
• Complete a daily timesheet and running sheet detailing activities for the day.
• Report any maintenance/repairs requirements to Fleet Services.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• A demonstrated understanding of municipal environmental services operations and practices.
• Basic awareness of relevant legislation including, "Road Management Act 2004".
• Knowledge of Works Programming, plant & equipment selection.
• Ability to obtain and hold required licenses and certifications.
• Knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Regulations.
• Ability to gain co-operation and communicate verbally to a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute and work in a team environment. Ability to work individually or as part of a team.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

• Certificate III in Waste Management or substantial relevant experience in the field of waste and litter programs with lesser formal qualifications.
• Relevant experience in the field of waste and litter collection and disposal or a similar maintenance environment.
• Current heavy vehicle truck licence.

Maintain Council’s roads, commercial/industrial precincts, shopping centres and public places by operating mechanical road sweepers.

What you’ll be doing:

• To conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on mechanical road sweeping vehicles daily in accordance with approved pre-start check list and maintenance programs.
• To ensure that the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned at the completion of each shift including inspecting the vehicle and reporting any maintenance/repair requirements to the workshop.
• Maintain roads, carparks, commercial/industrial precincts, shopping centres and public places to a high quality using mechanical road sweepers.
• To conduct Council’s Road sweeping activities in accordance with the units’ programs and/or works schedules as determined by the work groups agreements.
• To carry out the collection and disposal of waste/sweepings in accordance with Council’s safety policies and procedures.
• Sweeping and removal of all debris litter and vegetation/weeds from all road surfaces as needed and or as directed.
• Work in a safe, efficient, and effective manner taking all reasonable care of one’s own health and safety and for the health and safety of any other person(s) who may be affected by the employee’s acts or omissions.
• To actively participate in Continuous Improvement meetings to ensure best practise operations and services.
• To report daily any non-conformances, hazards or operational problems associated with the service.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• The following knowledge and skills are required to be utilised:
• Basic Knowledge of Litter Act 1987.
• Basic Knowledge of Council’s Waste and Cleansing Operations, Programs, Policies and Procedures.
• Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Demonstrated skills in basic repairs and maintenance of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
• Ability to operate mechanical road and footpath sweepers.
• Written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with members of the public and resolve minor problems in a courteous and effective manner.
• Understanding of Waste and Environmental Management Services.
• Current heavy truck licence.
• Current driver’s licence.
