Maintain Council’s roads, commercial/industrial precincts, shopping centres and public places by operating mechanical road sweepers.
What you’ll be doing:
- To conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on mechanical road sweeping vehicles daily in accordance with approved pre-start check list and maintenance programs.
- To ensure that the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned at the completion of each shift including inspecting the vehicle and reporting any maintenance/repair requirements to the workshop.
- Maintain roads, carparks, commercial/industrial precincts, shopping centres and public places to a high quality using mechanical road sweepers.
- To conduct Council’s Road sweeping activities in accordance with the units’ programs and/or works schedules as determined by the work groups agreements.
- To carry out the collection and disposal of waste/sweepings in accordance with Council’s safety policies and procedures.
- Sweeping and removal of all debris litter and vegetation/weeds from all road surfaces as needed and or as directed.
- Work in a safe, efficient, and effective manner taking all reasonable care of one’s own health and safety and for the health and safety of any other person(s) who may be affected by the employee’s acts or omissions.
- To actively participate in Continuous Improvement meetings to ensure best practise operations and services.
- To report daily any non-conformances, hazards or operational problems associated with the service.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- The following knowledge and skills are required to be utilised:
- Basic Knowledge of Litter Act 1987.
- Basic Knowledge of Council’s Waste and Cleansing Operations, Programs, Policies and Procedures.
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Demonstrated skills in basic repairs and maintenance of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
- Ability to operate mechanical road and footpath sweepers.
- Written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with members of the public and resolve minor problems in a courteous and effective manner.
- Understanding of Waste and Environmental Management Services.
- Current heavy truck licence.
- Current driver’s licence.
