The Asset Department at Hume City Council are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Road Maintenance team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Maintain Council's roads and drainage infrastructure in a safe, clean and structurally sound conditions
- Assist in the provision of road maintenance services in accordance with the Hume Road Management Plan.
- Perform preventative maintenance on Council's plant and equipment by conducting daily pre and post shift checks by carrying out and running repairs where required.
- Efficient and competent operation of plant and equipment and effective maintenance procedures.
- Achieve safety, quality standards and service levels of road maintenance.
- Drive Council maintenance vehicles to 22.4 tonnes G.C.M. and tow a trailer over > 750kg when necessary.
- Maintain vehicles and trailers e.g. check and maintain fuel, oil, water, lights and tyres, reporting any defects or malfunctions to mechanical maintenance staff and conduct minor maintenance as required.
- Contribute to the development and monitor road, drainage and roadside programs.
- To assist in the development of maintenance programs & to develop and facilitate effective reactive maintenance works procedures and responses that are in accordance with industry service levels for the maintenance activities defined in the Road Management Plan.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- A demonstrated understanding of municipal maintenance operations and practices.
- Good written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication techniques.
- Ability to gain co-operation and communicate verbally to a broad range of people form diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Basic awareness of relevant legislation including, "Road Management Act 2004".
- Knowledge of Works Programming, plant & equipment selection.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Civil Construction/ Plant or substantial relevant experience in the field of road maintenance with lesser formal qualifications.
- Several years of experience in the field of road maintenance or a similar maintenance environment.
- Current driver's licence.
- Heavy rigid truck licence.
- Certificate of competency to operate plant including grader, backhoes and loaders.
- Forklift licence
- WH&S White/Red Card
- Control traffic with Stop-Slow bat
- Implement Traffic Management Plans
