As our new Senior Secondary Design Engineer – Substations based in Sydney, you'll play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that 'bring ideas to life' for our clients. Working within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals based in Sydney on a wide variety of projects of our Energy & Industrial service group, getting exposure to varied and challenging projects locally in Sydney and across Australia.

Your role will include the following:

• Conduct, lead, review and verify detail designs and technical reports for the client, including substation secondary systems.
• Lead and deliver the concept to detailed Design of HV substation Secondary systems
• Secondary systems design – produce SLDs, HV substation layouts, equipment/materials lists, clearance checks, and short circuit force calculations
• Understand the critical technical aspects of projects, implementation, and integration for complex systems.
• Key areas of focus include HV transmission and distribution substations' secondary systems electrical design, encompassing protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control room layout.
• Ensure the project is delivered on time and budget.
• Undertake site inspections and associated reporting.
• Liaise with clients and contractors in relation to project objectives and targets on technical issues and problem resolution.

What are we looking for from you?

• Bachelor degree qualification in electrical (or related) engineering.
• 5-10 years experience in substation secondary design, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Knowledge of the transmission and distribution industry, standards, and codes in Australia and/or design experience with Australian electrical utilities
• Strong electrical design skills; in particularly secondary systems and substations
• Proficiency in offering solutions to technical challenges. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including effective influencing, motivation, and delegation skills."

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Systems Architect, you are accountable for:

• Leading the development of critical architectures as part of bids and projects
• Provide the Engineering Management role for bids and projects, supporting the initial development of the Work Breakdown,
• Manage the engineering team to produce the engineering design, schedule and estimates for successful development of bid and program start-up activities.
• Co-ordinate the efforts of all engineering specialty areas as part of the supported bid or project.

To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent.
• Recognised as a Chartered Engineer (CPEng) by Engineers Australia or demonstrated engineering competencies required to attain CPEng (desirable).
• Expert level of experience in Architecture development for major projects
• Expert level of experience in Systems engineering for major projects
• Expert level of experience in Engineering Management for major programs

What you’ll be doing
As part of our IT Infrastructure Team, we are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to deliver IT operations services to EACH business units, while continuously while continually enhancing the effectiveness of IT technology use.

As Senior Systems Engineer your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering and taking ownership of IT projects and services including network, operating systems, applications, endpoints, and security.
• Providing IT operational services for service requests, change management, incident management and problem management.
• Developing, implementing, and continuously enhancing technical ICT controls, including business continuity and resiliency, data and network security, and identity and access management.
• Working with the business to define technical ICT requirements for operating platforms.

Who we’re looking for 
This is a role for an established Systems Engineer with extensive experience in a similar position, as well as ICT administration or support work experience.

To succeed in this role, you will have: 

• Experience in IT project management (preferably in a technical lead role).
• Advanced knowledge of security technologies, current ICT trends, threats and technologies in complex ICT environments, as well as different network topologies and basic principles of network architecture design.
• Ability to present technical findings to stakeholders.
• Extensive experience in firewall policy management, IPS tuning and network behavioural analysis.
• Knowledge of private, public and hybrid cloud configuration and deployment (AWS/Azure/Dell Vxrail or similar HCI)
• Exposure to incident response and performing system and data restorations, as well as large commercial information systems, including analysis, design and management of complex IT infrastructure and solution.

Our Airspace Mobility Solutions team creates, develops and deploys air traffic management systems that are critical for safe aircraft movement. With products covering 40% of the world’s airspace, we enable the safe take-off and landing of 2 in 3 aircrafts globally.

Your Role

In this role you will work between our Tullamarine and World Trade Centre (CBD) sites both based on Wurundjeri land. Working in this team you help create the foundation for our air traffic management system meaning you play a key role in delivering Thales airspace projects.

Our Team

Our Above Water Systems team provides design services for commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our Navy. With ongoing training programs and a team of over 500, our people have room to grow and move as they make a meaningful contribution to Australia’s Defence.

Your Role

Located centrally in Woolloomooloo’s Garden Island, on Gadigal land you will enjoy seeing your work come to life on a variety of vessels.

Some daily tasks you can expect to do are: 

• Undertake activities like Combat System design, development, integration and testing

• Ensure adequate recording, investigation, analysis and tracking, through to resolution of trouble reports

• Conducting data analysis in support of customer/end user activities, including operator training, system performance assessments and system grooming

• Recently degree qualified in any Engineering discipline

Your Role

Located centrally in Woolloomooloo’s Garden Island, on Gadigal land you will provide advice and service with regard to engineering materials, properties and behaviour of these materials and their applications.

Some cool things you might get to do in this job:   

• Provide materials advice which supports the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) team

• Carrying out various materials tests as well as assisting in maintaining accreditation in a NATA accredited lab

• Work with navy vessels to document and assess condition of different parts of the ship

• Assisting and advising customers with materials technical issues and providing appropriate and practical solutions

Your Experience

• You are recently degree qualified in Material Science & Engineering or Chemical Engineering

Our Team

This is a unique opportunity to join the critically important Guided Weapons, Space and Hypersonics program established in Thales’ Australian Munitions business to support our key Defence strategies. What does this mean? Think rockets, missiles and space weapons! The cool thing is you will gain first hand exposure to see how we design, develop and test our latest tech!

Your Role

Working at our sites in Benalla and Mulwala - Pangerang and Yorta Yorta land in year one of the program you will:

• Understanding the site: safety , production, engineering principles, and R&D

• Designation to a project – for example you could be working on a rocket motor

• Getting to know our Corporate functions

In the second year we begin to develop your expertise as an Engineer. A mentor from outside your management chain will provided over the duration to provide additional avenues for professional development

Your Experience

What we value most from our graduates is a willingness to learn and the confidence to offer solutions, however there are a few key differences with this role that require the right person!

• Firstly, you must be willing to relocate to Mulwala (for at least the duration of the program), we provide generous support package for you to do so

• You are recently degree qualified in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering

• A true desire to work in a diverse team towards a common goal

• Leadership experience demonstrated through previous employment or extra-curricular activities whilst studying university

• Demonstrated experience of practical problem solving and achieving solutions
