Plan Safe is a boutique safety and human factors consultancy delivering end-to-end safety systems design, management and implementation for some of the most complex and fascinating projects in Australian aviation and rail, including Inland Rail, Sydney Metro, TfNSW Digital Systems Program, OneSKY and Western Sydney Airport.
Given this, we’re growing. Plan Safe is looking for a Principal Systems Safety Engineer who wants to contribute to the future of transport in Australia.
The role:
As part of the day to day tasks of the role, you will:
• Create and review Safety Assurance Plans for client projects that address the full system lifecycle
• Develop and review Safety Assurance Statements and Reports
• Provide justification of achievement of Safety So Far As is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP)
• Manage and review Hazard Logs associated with various projects
• Participate in and facilitate hazard identification and assessments such as PHA, SHA, FMECA, HAZOP etc
• Use engineering change management tools to ensure design modifications are adequately assessed
• Construct safety arguments using GSN and CAE
• Engage in the derivation of safety related requirements and in Verifying and Validating them through relevant project lifecycle stages
• Advising on the safe design and installation of control and signalling equipment for road, rail and air traffic
About you:
The following qualifications and experience are necessary for this position:
• Relevant degree in engineering, computer science or risk / safety
• At least 10 years' experience working in Systems Safety / RAMS
• Experience working in a safety or systems engineering role within rail, aviation or defence industries
• Experience with Rollingstock or control systems engineering
• Authoring and editing safety plans and safety cases using GSN and/or CAE methodologies
• Demonstrated experience in the application of safety standards such as IEC61508, EN50126, Eurocontrol SAM, RTCA DO-278, MIL-STD-882 etc
• Thorough understanding of Australian safety related legislation such as WHS, Rail Safety and CASR
• High level communication and negotiation skills, including advanced report writing skills
