Based in Shepparton East, Central Park Fresh is an established company in the Fruit & Tree Nut Farming Industry in Victoria.
Due to an imperative business need, they now seek a full-time skilled Agriculture Technician (Horticulture Officer) to join their team.
The Role
This is a full-time role with an annual salary set between $70,000 to $75,000, depending on experience with superannuation.
Responsibilities
Studying the land and soil to figure out the best way to use it and find out what nutrients it might need.
Finding harmful microorganisms, insects, parasites, fungi, and weeds that affect crops.
Developing integrated pest management strategies to control harmful organisms.
Helping to come up with new ways to plant, fertilize, harvest, and process crops to use the land better.
Assisting with experiments to develop improved crop varieties.
Gathering and organizing data for research.
Coordinating the supply of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals to farm workers, and advising on their use.
Planning harvesting and other aspects of production processes.
Coordinating labor, equipment, and logistical resources to ensure efficient and timely harvest operations.
Checking the quality of produce and making sure it meets standards.
Developing and implementing post-harvest handling procedures to minimize losses and maintain produce quality.
Advising farm workers on horticultural techniques and management.
Develop and implement strategies for soil conservation and enhancement to support sustainable farming practices
Requirements
Diploma in Horticulture, or a recognized equivalent qualification
At least 3 years of hands-on experience in tree maintenance and care
At least 3 years of proven expertise in tree identification, growth patterns, and biology within a commercial context
At least 3 years experience in tree care techniques, including pruning, fertilization, and pest control
Physically fit and highly motivated with a strong work ethic
Comprehensive understanding and experience in managing safety in high-risk environments
Familiarity with relevant regulations, including Tree Protection Orders, environmental legislation, and native vegetation policies
Experience with operating Elevated Work Platforms or using rope and harness techniques for tree climbing
Capable of performing aerial tree inspections
Current certifications in First Aid, Chainsaw Operation, General Construction Safety Induction (White Card), and preferably High-Risk Licence WP; MR Licence is a plus
Able to pass drug and health screenings
