The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Coupled Pickled Cold Mill (CPCM) Asset Team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Coupled Pickled Cold Mill is a highly automated processing line that uses a blend of old and new technology. The CPCM is toward the end of the steel-making process with the primary purpose of strip thickness reduction in preparation for the downstream steel coating processes.

As a skilled Mechanical Tradesperson, you will perform maintenance to our CPCM as required, while also being directly involved with the planning of maintenance in conjunction with our maintenance coordinators. 

What Will You Do?

In a role that impacts the safety of our people as well as the quality and reliability of our equipment and products, you will:

• as a part of the mechanical team, isolate equipment for shutdown works
• fault find and inspect quality and production critical equipment
• perform mechanical maintenance within the CPCM on a daily basis and on shut downs
• contribute to the team with out of hours support as required
• participate in ways to continuously improve our maintenance practises

 More About You

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you’ll enjoy taking ownership for your work and contributing to the larger team. You will bring:

• mechanical fitter/machinist qualifications consisting of either a Certificate III, Certificate IV, or Diploma.
• experience in a heavy industrial environment
• exposure to maintenance management systems and/or basic computer skills
• an enthusiasm to learn new skills and develop yourself in the role

Catholic Healthcare's St James Villa (40 beds) are looking for an experienced Maintenance Coordinator providing quality customer focused maintenance, grounds and garden services to the residents of our St James Matraville home. 

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

•  Experience working with maintenance requirements in aged care, retirement,   schools or similar
•  Minor repairs in walls, such as patching holes, repainting, installing grab rails
•  Plumbing repairs, such as changing tap washers, fixing leaks, 
• unblocking toilets, IT savvy - also small appliance, TV & Internet connections
• Handyman tasks such as repairing furniture, hanging shelves, maintaining the oiling of timber decks as required, cleaning stormwater grates once every 6 weeks
• Cleaning the carpark area on a regular basis-gurney once per month, garbage chutes and bin rooms on a regular basis–gurney once per month
• Recycling cardboard using the Bailer Machine, managing the removal and collection of garbage bins as often as required
• Ideally Trade certified 
• Highly computer literate, provide works costs estimates, logging and attending to work orders through an online system

• Knowledge and understanding of WH&S requirements essential

You will be working with our Western Australia team mainly on heat exchangers (GPHE and WHE) ensuring reliable operation, optimum performance and efficiency.

Key Tasks

• Secure a strong HSE and quality culture within the Service Centre.

• Perform hands on activities related to Heat Exchanger reconditioning including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, assembly, and pressure testing of the GPHE and WHE units.

• Report the technical findings on the different inspection along the job and establish reports.

• Adapt quickly availability of internal and external resources based on customer demands.

• Ensure that jobs are executed according to importance in close cooperation with sales and that deviations are reported quickly.

• Share knowledge and support in competence development.

• Suggest improvements for products and working procedures.

• Execute repairs and reconditioning of equipment in service centre according to specifications, repair manuals and the defined job scope.

• Be engaged in problem resolution, suggesting & implementing improvements for products, tools and working procedures.

What you Know

• Mechanical Engineering qualification(s), or equivalent.

• Welding qualifications would be an advantage.

• Problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge of Alfa Laval products especially heat exchangers would be an advantage, but not essential.
