Purpose of the Position
Complete assigned tasks in the shortest possible time and report back to the supervisor immediately when a task is completed.
Perform journeyman level installation, repair, assembly & maintenance of water, sewage, drainage, air, gas, & roofing systems & related equipment and facilities in accordance with pertinent state & local codes.
Ensure the completed system / fixture / assembly;

Provide technical guidance & direction to lower level personnel.
Scope
The plumber reports to the Supervisor & will install, repair & maintain plumbing, gas fitting, & roofing systems in residential, commercial, industrial, institutional or public buildings.
The plumber will receive scheduled or emergency work assignments, & carry out the works either independently or as team.
The plumber reads plans, specifications, Codes, photos, & scopes of work, to determine the layout of services / fixtures & associated items.
The plumber will then plan, install & maintain various services / fixtures & associated items to meet regulatory authority or manufacturers requirements.
Plumbers work in cooperation with other trades & labourers to ensure that all regulatory authority or manufacturers’ requirements are met, & to ensure the efficient completion of any project.
Complete any lawful and reasonable directions given by your employer.
Work Performed
Install, connect, repair & test plumbing fixtures such as showers, toilets, basins, sinks, baths, hot water units, drinking fountains, urinals, swimming pool equipment, washing machines etc.
Install, connect, repair & test gas fixtures such as room heaters, boilers, hot water units, & cooking appliances to the limitation of the incumbent’s certification.
Install, connect, repair & test roofing systems including metal sheet roofing, gutters, & downpipes.
Monitor & troubleshoot plumbing breakdowns by diagnosing trouble, & repairing, replacing or taking other corrective action of such items as blocked sewer lines, gas line breakdown, steam equipment & devices, & fire sprinkler systems.
Install & maintain thermostatic mixing valves, backflow prevention valves, water softeners, pumps, & arrestor pits to the limitation of the incumbent’s certification.
Determine routing of pipework & location of such plumbing fixtures, accessories & equipment as;
vent pipes
meters
gauges
hangers
brackets
water, sewer, gas & air connections;
By following & adhering to trade practice specifications, plans, sketches & codes.
Indicate lines & points on walls, floors, ceiling & open areas or set stakes to locate pipe routes, inlets, outlets, connections, fixtures & equipment.
Prepare working sketch as required.
Follow a predetermined schedule of preventative maintenance.
Provide technical guidance & direction to lower personnel.
Perform other related duties including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required & the work does not exceed own capabilities.
Respect & respond to direction given by supervisors / management.
Contribute & participate in the effective use of the Quality Control Systems, & Workplace Health & Safety System.
Perform all duties related to roofing, plumbing, drainage & gas fitting, including new installations & renovations.
Calculate & request material required to complete a job.
Perform soldering & welding as required.
Work with a scope of works, plans & specifications.
Understand & comply with all;
Laser Plumbing Tamworth policies & procedures.
Statutory Authorities requirements.
Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes & pipe fittings using hand & power tools.
Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water, gas, or air & observe pressure gauges to detect & locate leaks.
Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
Assemble pipe sections, tubing & fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking or soldering, brazing, & welding equipment.
Clear away debris from a work site.
Direct workers engaged in pipe cutting & preassembly & installation of plumbing systems & components.
Perform complex calculations & planning for special or very large jobs.

Inform the operations manager at the completion of each job, what the job status is, including (but not limited to);
Completed
Need to return with more materials
Need to return with a different trade
Need to return once another process has been completed
Complete Job Card details at the end of every job / site visit, including recording;
KPI’s (key performance indicators) i.e. labour hours

Working Conditions
Physical effort including carrying supplies, reaching, bending, stretching, climbing, heavy lifting, & digging.
Physical environment;
Varying temperatures, noise.
Exposure to fumes, chemicals & solvents, dirty water including sewage waste products, & possibly infectious or toxic environment.
Working in cramped quarters.
Sensory attention;
Following required “Codes of Practice” and “Australian Standards”.
Reading plans & specifications, scopes of work, operation manuals, & MSDS.
Attention to detail to avoid leaks or explosions, & ensure correct operation of the system / fixture.
Operating specialized equipment (e.g. power tools, harnesses, drain cleaning machines).
Skills & Competencies
1. Training
Ability to read & work from plans, sketches, & specifications.
Must have completed General WHS induction training for construction work
Must possess a valid qualification as a plumber, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship

Ensure that all tools and equipment placed in your care are used, & adequately secured, to prevent loss or damage.
