As a Machine Operator, you'll be responsible for operating our CNC plate profilers, and drilling machines. You'll also be in charge of keeping your workspace clean and safe. Don't worry if you don't have prior experience, as we'll provide on-the-job training for all positions.

We now have a great opportunity at our Geelong Jetty operations for a Wharf Attendant to join our established team.

In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational support of monitoring product in and product out.  You will also complete regular maintenance inspections, perform Quality testing, sampling and cleaning.

This role operates within a rotating shift 24/7 and is a salaried position with attractive shift allowance provided.

What you will do

• Ensure all Health& Safety critical processes are implemented and adhered to.
• Promote our culture of ‘Beyond Goal Zero’ showing visible leadership in Health & Safety activities.
• Conduct daily checks of gantry equipment.
• Complete routine operational observations of jetty facilities to ensure that product is received safely and efficiently with appropriate focus on product quality and interfaces, including:
  • hose connection / disconnection including crane use / MLA operation to ships,
  • line flushes and operation of sumps, and
  • wharf watch and line monitoring.
• Manage deliveries of fuel from the refinery to ships.
• Ensure safe practices around gas detection.
• Assist maintenance works by reviewing contractor Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) risk/hazard assessments.
• Raise incidents reports, assist with investigations, and identify remedial actions.
• Raise maintenance or inspection requests for equipment, if required.
• Assist site contractors performing relevant sampling and testing of product.

Paint Inspector - NACE 1 or 2

The Paint Inspector is responsible for the blast & paint quality, inspections and recording of blast and paint data in our structural steel and plate fabrication facilities. The role involves overseeing the performance and development of blast and paint staff, ensuring all blasting and painting meets the required quality standards and testing requirements and that traceability documentation is up to date for each project.

Performing all necessary blast and paint inspections in compliance with Australian Standards, Client specifications and product requirements. Provide guidance, training and supervision of the blast & paint trade staff to ensure timely project deliveries, effective performance/workmanship and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Objectives:

• Ensures adherence to the Company's Quality Policy, Manual and Quality Procedures related to welding and manufacturing
• Ensures adherence to Code requirements and client specifications
• Ensures blast & paint records are up to date
• Understand and implement quality control techniques
• Support the Supervisor in planning and execution of designated work-tasks
• Manages and reports on blast and paint consumables stock levels
• Monitor and raise concerns of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) issues within the workplace.
• Mentor and develop skills of blast & paint trade staff.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Provide support and mentorship to the blast & paint staff. Develop training program to upskill employees within the blast and paint teams
• Monitoring of blast and paint performances, ensure that the blast & paint staff is following the correct paint system and consumables). Periodically check blast and paint equipment  for cleanliness and functioning
• Record keeping of all blast and paint activities on the shopfloor as per project code requirements, keeping the QC database (Simweb) up to date with painter ID’s and DFT measurements.
• Maintain blast and paint reports for MDR requirements
• Visual and DFT Inspection (VI) of each paint coat in line with production schedules and project workflow/needs
• Liaise with Afternoon shift supervisor and/or paint inspector (shift handover) when necessary
• Manage and control all activities for blast and paint inspections.
• Always provide positive motivation to all team members within the labour force to ensure an ongoing positive work environment.
• Actioning efforts to minimize waste and act according to our Environment and Sustainability policy.
• Assisting the QC/QA team with documentation, when necessary

We are looking for machine operators to operate our CNC plate profilers, Saw cutting and drilling machines. You will be reporting to the workshop supervisor, and you will be responsible for operating machines, loading and unloading of infeed and outfeed beds, performing tolerance checks, and keeping a clean and safe workspace.

Prior experience is not required; however, the minimum expected qualities of any applicant are basic mechanical understanding, entry level computer skills, a positive work ethic, and a passion for steel fabrication. On-the-job training on Thornton Engineering’s equipment will be provided for all positions. 

This is a Pivotal role running the Geelong refinery, scheduling the arrival and delivery of crudes and feedstock’s (including chemical feeds) ensuring availability in the necessary quantities and qualities to meet commitments and product quality constraints, optimise stock and asset utilisation. 

You will love problem solving and thinking on your feet as you take proactive actions to optimize refinery units and mitigate the effects of the early or late arrival of shipments.  The refinery crude scheduler actively contributes to Crude Acceptance Matrix (CAM) and Crude approval activities.

This position is responsible for scheduling the crude and solvents production units in line with agreed Production Plan, you will have direct influence over the daily refinery production, and this includes crude rates, blending and downstream unit operation.

The Area Technical Manager (ATM) is the technical leader in the Zone 2 area of the refinery, managing key process units of the RCCU, solvents plant and boiler utilities systems.

As the ATM you will manage a team of engineers working closely with a multi-disciplinary Asset Team (operations, maintenance and technical) and with the refinery field operators, panel operators and our commercial team.  

In this role you will be active in the day to day operations, developing and designing process improvements enhancing profitability, reliability and safety, working alongside a strong team of experienced engineers and leaders will support you, helping you to grow technically and professionally.

The purpose of this role is to develop safe, effective and efficient tank repair, modification and construction methods whilst ensuring reliable availability storage tanks across all areas of the refinery.

• Recommend tank repair, modification and construction methods in line with applicable statutory, industry and company requirements to maintain long-term tank integrity and function. Base case for refinery bulk storage assets is 20yr fit-for-service following out-of-service inspection.
• Develop Management of Change (MOC) proposals and supporting documentation for non-routine tank repair methodologies and proposed tank design modifications.
• Collaborate with the refinery integrity team, to forecast and optimise a risk-based tankage inspection and outage program on a 12 monthly and 10 year rolling schedule.
• Actively contribute to the development of the annual Tank Maintenance plan, tank schedules and resource and cost estimates.
• Maintain relevant tank repair records and history.
• Able to work within a team as well as self-motivated to achieve asset integrity and business goals.

As an Instrument and Electrical Asset Engineer working within the Reliability team at the Geelong Refinery, you will directly support our Asset teams as the first port of call for Instrument and Electrical Engineering support. You will respond to equipment breakdown with our maintenance team and provide condition based repair and replacement scopes. In addition, you’ll provide technical assistance to our Asset teams to:

• Troubleshoot instrument and electrical issues.
• Investigate incidents using RCA and other engineering techniques.
• Manage compliance to our instrument and electrical safeguarding testing regimes.
• Lead small plant changes and projects and represent the Asset team as a technical stakeholder on large projects.
• Develop and execute maintenance intervention and Turnaround scopes.
