The Medical Manager, Dermatology role is an opportunity to shape and expand the future of medical affairs at Pfizer and across industries to achieve our aspiration and fulfill our purpose of leading breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.
Working with the Specialty Care Medical Lead, the role provides medical, scientific leadership for the dermatology portfolio. A central focus of the role is to generate and analyse medical insights, identify clinical data gaps, generate relevant evidence, and communicate medical data effectively through a coordinated medical omnichannel strategy. Close partnership with Collective Advantage functions including Medical Engagement, Evidence Generation, Field Medical and Medical Quality Governance is essential.
The Medical Manager, Dermatology will actively collaborate with cross-functional partners, internal and external stakeholders, and cross business medical affairs functions to implement and execute plans and strategies. Stakeholders include but are not limited to Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Medical Information, Drug Safety, Clinical Research and Corporate Compliance. The role will also maintain an ongoing external relationship and partnership with health care specialists, key opinion leaders, researchers, and investigators, advancing science and research and enhancing Pfizer reputation and recognition.
How You Will Achieve It
- Work with the category Medical Lead to manage the strategic direction and implement and execute plans for key assets in the dermatology medical category
- Closely align with above country teams in the medical category to ensure the local medical team receives timely information on asset strategy and objectives, clinical development plan, new/important clinical data, new regulatory and safety information and accurate, balanced and up to date materials to use in medical-to-medical (M2M) communications. As such, this role may need to attend teleconferences with global colleagues, such as Medical Scientific Subcommittees, outside of routine working hours.
- Closely collaborate with the local cross-functional teams to ensure a alignment of activities in compliance with Pfizer and local regulations
- Lead the generation of real-world evidence in the dermatology therapeutic area in collaboration with internal and external experts
- A key aspect of the role is to interact on a regular basis with key opinion leaders and to develop enduring relationships with local, regional and national opinion leaders, regional advisors on clinical practice, contributors to national guidelines and national and/or regional formularies. The MM is responsible for ensuring the Company’s adherence to high standards of conduct in all its dealings with the medical profession, supporting health care disciplines and with consumers.
- Provide medical support to in-country team and externally to ensure that the objectives of each asset are realised, product licenses are maintained and to support Pfizer’s reputation in the marketplace whilst legal, regulatory and ethical standards are maintained
- Lead or participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure that ongoing improvements in processes and performance are delivered
- Lead medical support for clinical research programs, protocol and site feasibilities related to dermatology assets
- Lead therapy area support for and management of investigator sponsored studies (ISRs) to ensure that adequate records are kept, progress is monitored, and presentation and publication of data is encouraged
- Support the Medical Affairs Review and Approval experts in the certification of promotional material provided by Global teams or produced in country for medical and scientific correctness and adherence to Pfizer and local regulations
- Lead the creation or localisation of M2M content to ensure the highest level of medical and scientific correctness and adherence to Pfizer and local regulations
- The MM is pro-actively involved in supporting all aspects of a product’s appropriate positioning and usage medically and in accordance with current scientific evidence in order to enhance the product’s value in accordance with evidence-based medicine and the general principles of the quality use of medicines
- Ensure compliance with respect to relevant Codes of Practice, SOPs, regulations and guidelines
- Demonstrate collective leadership, leading transformation, scientific expertise and execution
- The MM is responsible for engendering a management culture that is in accordance with the Pfizer core values and ensuring that Medical Affairs ethical and professional values are adhered to in all actions and activities
- Act as a key enabler in building a strong culture and driving the Pfizer AU/NZ innovation agenda
Qualifications
Must Have
- Tertiary education in medicine or a health science related discipline; relevant specialty training desirable
- Deep understanding of life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and/or healthcare industry
- Experience in the dermatology therapeutic area is desirable
- Experience with medical affairs management of assets within the pharmaceutical industry (i.e. regulatory and PBAC submissions) is desirable
- Strong track record of networking and collaborations and ability to understand and influence in a highly matrixed environment
- Strong managerial, organisational, and communication (e.g., writing, presentation, etc.) skills
- Experience in cross-functional and cross-categorical projects and initiatives
- Ability to thrive under pressure, uphold accountability, and meet deadlines
- Ability to identify risks and remove roadblocks to enable success
Nice-to-Have
- Medical Qualifications or PhD in relevant therapeutic areas
- Pharmaceutical Industry experience (3 – 5 years +)
- Good working knowledge of relevant industry and professional Codes of Conduct and Practice in both Australia and New Zealand
