Housed in a striking Italian Renaissance building with palatial Art Deco sentiments; Morris has found new life as an evocative bar and boutique 82-room hotel. The hotel will feature a chic ground-floor wine bar focusing on Australian and Italian wines.

Picture this: you, as the Assistant Manager, leading the charge in our unique, boutique-style haven. You're not just a cog in the wheel; you're a luminary like our beloved Morris themselves. 

All About the Role

As an Assistant Manager at Morris, you are in charge of the day to day operations of this beautiful boutique hotel inclusive of Front office and Food and Beverage. 

Reporting to the Guest Experience Manager, you will: 

• Oversee operations and maintain a highly visible presence in Front Office and guest contact areas (i.e. Lobby, Food & Beverage outlets and Housekeeping). 
• In the event of any medical emergencies with overnight team to assist/cover Night Audit. 
• Review arrival lists and anticipate guest needs. Maintain active liaison with Housekeeping, Guest Relations, Food and Beverage to ensure exceptional guest service.
• Meet and greet VIP guests and attend to special requests. Escort guests to rooms as directed.
• Maintain complete knowledge of all room types, hotel matrix and facilities
• Ensure optimum staffing levels in all areas of the hotel (utilising associates on site as necessary).
• Address and resolve major complaints. Communicate problems to management and advice steps taken to resolve. Including responses to guest feedback survey’s
• Manage any emergency situations, leading the staff, responding and conducting detailed Incident reports. All Duty Managers are Fire Wardens
• Maintain a high level of product and service knowledge in order to explain and sell services and facilities to guests. Keep up to date current on guest, restaurant and functions activities.
• Conduct training in Security and Fire Evacuation procedures with assistance from Chief Engineer. Ensure security procedures are in place for the area. Ensure security checks are conducted during each shift.
• Conduct shift briefings and ensure effective shift hand-overs. Maintain Duty Manager’s log book and liaising with department heads on various issues and complaints.
• Manage and assist Guest experience manager with publishing rosters and submitting payroll
• Manage and being accountable for controlling the Duty Manager float/Reception Float

Key duties include:

HR Strategy & Administration

• Set and manage the implementation of the P&C strategy for Australia
• Collaborate with our global offices to ensure alignment and knowledge-sharing
• First point of contact for all HR-related queries
• Administer personnel documentation, ensuring that all filing systems are up to date including offer letters, contracts, right to work and benefits information
• Conduct exit interviews and compile and consolidate data

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

• Execute the strategy for recruitment and selection
• Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, talent pooling, strategic sourcing, selection, contract generation and induction
• Ensure a seamless onboarding process for new hires
• Develop creative strategies to build our employer brand 
• Develop and manage Internships programs

Culture Leadership

• Nurture and enhance our unique workplace culture, ensuring it remains vibrant, inclusive, and aligned with our values
• Be the driving force behind initiatives that promote employee engagement and satisfaction, developing initiatives to foster company culture, enhance working relationships, and foster collaboration and team spirit e.g. team building activities, mentoring and buddy programs
  

Training & Development

• Work closely with department heads to identify training and development needs.
• Implement programs that support professional growth and skill enhancement, fostering a culture of continuous learning
• Develop and maintain We Are Social’s training calendar, including both technical training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and soft skill training 

Performance Management

• Support department heads to implement performance management process
• Provide guidance on goal setting, feedback, and career development, contributing to a high-performance culture
• Provide HR support around performance management issues
• Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management, handling confidential matters with sensitivity and diplomacy
• Proactively address any concerns and maintain a positive work environment

• Drive initiatives that promote DE&I across all aspects of our organisation
• Ensure a fair and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 3 to 4 days/week availability. Hours can be spread across the week as required.
• Masters degree in HR, business or similar 
• At least 4 years experience in HR or People & Culture Manager or similar role in a fast-paced and creative environment.
• In-depth knowledge of AES/Australian HR policies and best practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to drive cultural initiatives and engage employees.
• Experience in talent acquisition and onboarding processes.
• Understanding of performance management and employee development strategies.
• Passion for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
• Australian working rights and currently located in Sydney
