Job TitleResearch Officer/Research AssistantJob DescriptionAn excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer / Research Assistant to join the Rogers Lab at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.About the PositionMalaria continues to remain a significant global health burden, with Plasmodium falciparum responsible for the majority of disease mortality. An area of intense research focus is the asexual blood stage which is responsible for disease symptoms. This stage begins with the invasion of a single red blood cell by a single malaria causing parasite and is a dynamic and complex biological process. How the parasite can subvert the host membrane-cytoskeletal complex remains an open question. We are looking for a scientist who can help us understand how host derived mechanisms enable apicomplexan parasites to invade their host cells. This role will involve the use of advanced microscopy and /or image analysis techniques and would suit an individual who already has some experience in culturing the malaria parasite, or who has worked with other types of infectious organisms. It is particularly suited to someone who wants to be at the cutting edge of live cell, 4-dimensional microscopy and who would like the opportunity to gain some expertise in this area. We currently use techniques such as lattice light sheet and high-speed confocal microscopy as well as AI based image analysis pipelines for the quantitative analysis of live cell data.  The research officer/assistant will focus on the development and implementation of novel microscopy methods to better understand the process of erythrocyte invasion by P.falciparum. The position will include opportunities to develop skills in advanced live-cell and super-resolution imaging technologies and would suit a candidate with a strong background in Plasmodium cell-biology. A higher degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology or related field is essential. It is expected that the candidate will have significant experience with Plasmodium culturing and the maintenance of various parasite lines. This position would suit a candidate with a strong cell biology background looking to develop their technical skills in advanced microscopy.  This position will suit an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an independent work ethic, proven project management experience and a collaborative mindset. CSIRO’s Autonomous Sensors Future Science Platform (AS FSP) focuses on accelerating the generation of new tools to grow the digital decision making within domains, combining fundamental sensor research with autonomous engineering solutions to provide new advanced sensing and platform technologies for the environmental monitoring, health monitoring, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing domains. Within this FSP, we are currently developing a new initiative – The Sensor Prototyping Hub – which is an experimental and new approach to leverage and foster engineering capabilities, by bringing together capabilities and internal facilities across CSIRO to deliver prototypes of lab-based technologies to accelerate field testing and technology iteration for faster commercialisation and realisation of impact.
In this hands-on role, you will play a key role within The Hub and contribute to its objectives by bringing your mechatronics expertise and experimenting skills to deliver the design and integration of mechanical systems, circuits, general & embedded software, and communications. You will also be using your strong problem solving, teamwork and communication skills to use and/or design test equipment to characterise sensor performance or develop documentation to enable researchers to conduct experiments repeatedly in the laboratory or field. Working primarily within our Mineral Resources unit in Lucas Heights, your role will initially focus on projects involving X-ray and radio frequency-based sensors, and their sensor applications would cover a range of industries such as mining, biosecurity and food quality.

In this position, you will play an important role into generating the best laboratory evidence to ultimately drive clinical translation of results for one of the most difficult-to-treat types of childhood cancer, called sarcoma. The position will include work on in vivo sarcoma patient-derived xenograft models, including tumour implantation, in vivo therapy experiments, post-treatment tumour analysis (eg immunohistochemistry, western blot), and survival/growth analysis. We have a range of promising drugs lined up for in vivo testing, and a very real possibility that if these drugs continue to perform well in our experiments, accelerate clinical translation. It will also involve assisting in the molecular and functional studies of sarcoma cell lines and sarcoma samples, including examining the consequences of mutations/fusions, developing functional genomic screens, test drug responses, examine (phospho)protein signal transduction pathways, and identifying potential drug targeting strategies.
As our Research Assistant your purpose will be to:

Set-up and work with sarcoma patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models. This will involve the subcutaneous engraftment of PDXs, monitoring, and treating via oral gavage or IP.
Assist with the development and maintenance of primary sarcoma cell lines
Assist with drug screens and molecular work in the sarcoma cell line models
Assist with general laboratory management including contributing to ordering supplies, maintaining laboratory inventory
Achieve an outstanding level of competence in all aspects of experimental work 
Contribute to quality publications
Be involved in professional activities
Collate, organise and present experimental results
Be compliant with OH&S requirements for handling of human samples and according to Institute policies
Abide by privacy legislation, ethics guidelines and the legal requirements for research involving human material

 To succeed you will have…

Experience with in vivo mouse models/techniques is highly desirable but not essential, as training can be provided. Handling/restraint, oral gavage, and experience with subcutaneous engraftments is a big plus.
Practical experience in the conduct of molecular biology techniques (such as Western Blot, RT PCR, transfection and FACS) and cell culture techniques
Demonstrated experience in data analyses using Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism for basic statistical analysis

Treatments may involve several modalities such as medicines, surgery, radiotherapy and in more recent years the growth of immunotherapies have seen significant advances. As the treatments for cancer have advanced, we have seen increased complexity and acuity of care needs for our patients. The role will suit someone who brings a track record of successfully navigating both omni-channel and pure-play e-commerce strategies, engaging with internal stakeholders, and possess experience dealing with major retailers in a previous Key Account sales capacity.   Role Purpose: The eCommerce Sales Leader will work across our portfolio of market leading brands to drive market share growth and implement joint business planning in the ecommerce/omnichannel landscape.   The Team: Reporting into the Head of Commercial CHC, and managing 2 x Direct Reports, this role is responsible for leading and executing Sanofi Australia’s eCommerce initiatives to achieve revenue, growth, market share and profitability targets.      This is a rare Leadership role where you will shape the unlimited scope of potential , align closely with global and regional teams, and hold an influential business wide remit to advance the Sanofi eCommerce offer and customer journey .     Role Responsibilities:    Develop and execute a comprehensive e-commerce strategy, encompassing both omni-channel and pure-play approaches.   Lead and mentor a team of 2 Direct Reports to deliver eCommerce Market Share Growth as well as the Sanofi CHC AU commercial objectives     Actively engage and collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments to ensure alignment with e-commerce initiatives.   Utilize your experience working with major retailers to establish strong partnerships and implement joint business planning for mutual success.   Employ your shopper and trade marketing expertise to create compelling online shopping experiences that resonate with customers.   Identify emerging trends, technologies, and consumer behaviors to capitalize on opportunities in the digital space.   C ollaborate closely with marketing, sales, and agency and customer teams to ensure a seamless online shopping experience.   Monitor and analyze performance metrics, making data-driven decisions to optimize our offers   Drive innovation and stay ahead of industry best practices to maintain a competitive edge.   Build eCommerce capability and understanding through the organization to ensure that we have a BiC eCommerce focussed organisation       About You & Key Criteria for the role:    At least 5 years Business Experience in a Sales role (ideally prior NAM or KAM level) with minimum 2 years’ experience working in eCommerce, Digital or Trade M arketing   Cross functional collaboration and influencing skills   Strong Financial Analysis skills   Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.   Dynamic, results-oriented individual with a "hands on" style   Adaptable to a fast-paced, high-growth, changing environment   Customer-oriented  and high-level client relationship building   Work rights: Please note to apply for this role you must already have the right to lawfully work and live in Australia.     Interested?
