Job Title Laboratory Head Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Laboratory Head to join the Infectious Diseases and Immune Defence Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position We seek a highly talented individual to work on pathogens of global significance and their interaction with the host. We also anticipate this individual can develop and/or test novel therapeutics targeted against the pathogen or addressing the host response to infection. This person will develop an internationally competitive program with the long-term aim of making important contributions to the understanding of infectious diseases and their interaction with their host, including using this knowledge to develop new therapies. This individual will ideally utilize WEHI’s high containment PC3 facility, equipped with animal facilities and be well placed to collaborate broadly across the division and institute. The individual will have a track record of, or ability to work as part of big collaborative teams to address the most important questions in their field. The individual will have existing experience of leading, or have the potential to lead, a highly productive team that can perform and publish world-class research, and to become a leader in infectious disease research in Australia and internationally. Selection Criteria Hold a PhD or equivalent An outstanding publication record. Proven ability to work in and manage a high containment facility Extensive experience in preclinical animal models of infectious diseases A broad knowledge on how pathogens interact with their host and host defence mechanisms Experience and passion for collaboration to answer important fundamental biological questions An interest in translating their findings into new therapies or repurposing current therapies for new uses Some experience in attracting funding for their work Terms of Appointment This position is 7 years in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level C ($ 134,472 - $ 155,052) . Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
