A global digital consultancy with offices all over Australia is seeking a permanent IT Support Engineer to work on site for a leading Australian mining organisation based at their Central QLD and Northern Territory mine sites (FIFO from Cairns, Townsville or Brisbane)!
Your new role
Established many years ago with operations in over four dozen countries, this globe spanning organisation conducts a myriad of technical services across the software, data, infrastructure, support and project management domains (to name a few). Being well established in Australia, this organisation works with a multitude of companies across several industries from the financial services to the aviation sector. Due to their presence and expertise, this consultancy has partnered with a leading Australian mining organisation to provide technical support to all their mine sites throughout the country.

Your new role in this organisation will see you work within a dedicated on-site multi-disciplinary technology support team comprised of IT Engineers and Field Technicians. This will see you work in a Fly-In, Fly-Out (FIFO) capacity from Cairns, Townsville or Brisbane to this mining organisations largest sites in QLD and the NT.

Within this team you will work throughout the site to conduct IT support across the infrastructure, networking, systems and hardware domains (to name a few). The projects and work you will be conducting will vary to include (but not limited to) Cisco network hardware refreshes, upgrading purpose built on prem data centres, virtualisation maintenance (VMware/vCenter), Windows Server deployments and resolving Windows 10 issues to name a few. As a first point of contact for any IT issues the day-to-day work will always be changing with multiple off-site support teams to escalate issues to available if and when the need arises.

Whilst working for this specialised digital consultancy, you will be reporting into the mining organisations Engineering Managers whilst also liaising with the consultancy for non-IT related issues (such as HR for example). In this capacity, you will be working alongside the sites own engineering team to deliver work (and projects) together. With regards to the successful candidates background, mining experience would of be required and due to the breadth of this role we are seeking good all round IT Engineers with experience across a range of hardware platforms, the Microsoft Eco system and networking technologies in large enterprise level environments.

The working hours (and conditions) for this role are on a FIFO (Fly In, Fly Out) basis from Cairns, Townsville or Brisbane on varying rosters such as 8:6 (8 days on, 6 days off) or 7:7 (7 days on, 7 days off), or a mixture of the two. These rosters will see you stay on site during your rotation (with all flights, accommodation and meals paid for by the company) and flown back once the rotation has completed.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need experience/knowledge across the following:

Previous site based mining experience
Microsoft - Windows Servers and Desktop OS (such as Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, Windows 10, etc), Microsoft 365, SCCM, 365, etc
Configuration of networking/infrastructure platforms (Switches, Routers, Access Points, fibre optic cabling etc)
Telecommunications/Fibre Optic experience advantageous
Hardware (Desktops, Laptops, Mobile Devices etc) maintenance and deployment/rollouts

Specifically, you will be specialising on the design and build of the data infrastructure that underpins this teams Machine Learning (ML) and Big Data capabilities (with the view to later focus on the data science aspects). From this, your creations will then be transformed into production by a separate team enabling you to continue your R&D focused work. For an insight into future projects, this team is aiming to move from manned assets to fully autonomous vehicles and the creation of the systems behind these.

Regardless of the work, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities across both the data engineering and science disciplines (as previous mentioned). Whilst based in Brisbane, some travel may a requirement. Your new role as this teams ESG Technical Solutions Manager will see you work with both the engineering team and end clients on cutting edge digital solutions (initially as prototypes then fully fledged). Whilst all based on an overarching technical platform that sprawls several technical domains (IoT, Cloud, AI and OT), the solutions can vary from the control of autonomous vehicles to the interoperability of different OEM's.

Based on this platform, your solutions goals are to monitor, record and reduce the mining carbon footprint via innovate technological means. With a focus on the reduction of Scope 1 emissions omitted by mining assets (first mobile then later fixed such as longwalls, trucks, production lines, etc), your work will vary between the environmental and digital technology domains.

Using your experience and understanding of Scope 1 emissions (e.g. Green House Gasses), you will create solutions to monitor (and counter) these. Not to be confused with calculating these emissions in a general sense (e.g. using a vehicles average fuel consumption, OEM's technical specifications, etc), you will be working with technical experts to create solutions that will measure and monitor an individual assets emissions in real time. Once achieved, these metrics will then be relayed back to the technical platform to be used, analysed and (if achievable) reduced.

Having experience in the real-life measurement of emissions from not only assets but industrial equipment is paramount to the success of this position and this teams end goals. A passion for emission reductions alongside digital technology is crucial as by working alongside dedicated Chemical and Technology Engineers, the solutions under your control will bring mining into the 21st century.

With the aim of enhancing how mine sits operate through the use of technology, this organisation is going through a stage of growth to be able to meet their client's technological needs.

Based in Brisbane your new role will see you work within the dedicated multi-disciplinary Queensland technology team focused on providing solutions across region. Within this team you will focus on the design, build and rollout of custom network solutions for several well-known mining organisations with sites throughout the state (from the Mackay Bowen Basin to Weipa and everything in between).

Specifically, you will be focusing on the end-to-end delivery of networking solutions for the mines by working with multiple internal departments such as the with the pre-sales team (from a technical perspective to provide your expertise and knowledge to clients), the design engineers (to map out the design of the network solutions), the hands-on IT engineers (to deliver the solutions) and the IT support team (to help diagnose any faults on the system once implemented) among others.

Due to the nature of this role onsite visits to mine sites throughout QLD will be required as and when dependent upon each individual project's stage/state. This travel will be in a FIFO capacity from Brisbane with all flights, accommodation and meals provided (alongside which includes a site allowance to compensate you for the travel which varies depending upon the site and length of stay).

To summarise, this role will see you work with organisations across the state to deliver custom built network solutions with no two projects being the same!
