About the Job

The responsibility of this role is to support the Senior Manager, Actuarial Services and General Manager, Actuarial Services in carrying out actuarial valuations, business planning, advice and insights to drive intelligent, commercial outcomes for Rest’s Insurance Group.  Reporting to the Senior Manager or General Manager, Actuarial Services this role will support the provision of strategic analytical advice and support relating to negotiations and decision making in the group insurance pricing under the Premium Adjustment Model (i.e. profit-sharing group insurance), Insurance Reserve monitoring and forecasting.

• Overall responsibility for supporting financial management of the insurance premium costs and insurance reserving. You will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting financial data related to insurance premiums and reserves, as well as identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Supporting the Premium Adjustment Model process. Prepare independent loss ratio analysis, validate insurer’s loss ratio assumptions, methodology, negotiate with insurer on forward adjustments for best estimate pricing and review annual APA calculations on an annual basis.
• Quarterly loss ratio reporting. The results are presented at Product Impact Forum (PIF) to Rest senior leaders.
• Monitoring insurance reserving including forecasting balances based on prevailing claims and premium experience. The results are presented at Product Impact Forum (PIF) to Rest senior leaders.
• Monitoring and reviewing group insurance pricing assumptions, actual claims expense and premiums
• Data analytics using database including R and/or SQL
• Developing trend analysis for claims expenses and premium based on prior experience
• Developing appropriate monitoring and reporting framework for financial aspects of groups insurance expense
• Assisting with members best financial interest analysis for insurance expenditure
• Support decision making on insurance premium pricing and terms with Groups external insurer including for corporate tenders
• Assess and review exposure under the Premium Adjustment Model adopted by the Group. As a responsible and accountable member of the team, your role would involve not only conducting assessments and reviews under the Premium Adjustment Model, but also providing recommendations for any necessary adjustments to be made based on your findings. You would be expected to communicate these recommendations clearly to relevant stakeholders, and work collaboratively with others to ensure that any necessary actions are taken in a timely and effective manner. You'll oversee updates and reprints of our print product, co-ordinate regular releases of our digital products, and liaise with student testers and teachers, subject matter experts and career profilists to ensure our resources are bullet-proof before they get into the classroom.

About the Role
We are currently seeking two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to support the NHMRC Synergy Grant-funded “Implementation of x-ray PhAse-Contrast Tomography to transform cancer diagnosis” (IMPACT) program. The IMPACT program aims to transform the diagnosis of breast and lung cancers worldwide using propagation-based phase-contrast computed tomography (PB-CT).

The Postdoctoral Research Assistants will lead the imaging side of IMPACT in breast CT and lung imaging streams, working closely with the Australian Synchrotron and multidisciplinary research teams at the universities of Melbourne, Monash, and Sydney. You’ll contribute to important research that establishes a path to the clinical implementation of PC-CT as a novel low-dose, high-quality imaging technique. This roles offers an exclusive opportunity to work closely with academic, clinical, and industry partners, advancing your academic development and research!

Your responsibilities will include:

Conduct x-ray imaging experiments with phantoms and breast tissue samples
Reconstruct and process volumetric medical images
Develop custom software to perform image processing and analysis tasks.

Actively participate at School meetings and with guidance, contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School/discipline

Demonstrated proficiency in programming for data analysis and advanced processing

An area of intense research focus is the asexual blood stage which is responsible for disease symptoms. This stage begins with the invasion of a single red blood cell by a single malaria causing parasite and is a dynamic and complex biological process. How the parasite can subvert the host membrane-cytoskeletal complex remains an open question. We are looking for a scientist who can help us understand how host derived mechanisms enable apicomplexan parasites to invade their host cells. This role will involve the use of advanced microscopy and /or image analysis techniques and would suit an individual who already has some experience in culturing the malaria parasite, or who has worked with other types of infectious organisms. It is particularly suited to someone who wants to be at the cutting edge of live cell, 4-dimensional microscopy and who would like the opportunity to gain some expertise in this area. We currently use techniques such as lattice light sheet and high-speed confocal microscopy as well as AI based image analysis pipelines for the quantitative analysis of live cell data.  The research officer/assistant will focus on the development and implementation of novel microscopy methods to better understand the process of erythrocyte invasion by P.falciparum. The position will include opportunities to develop skills in advanced live-cell and super-resolution imaging technologies and would suit a candidate with a strong background in Plasmodium cell-biology. A higher degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology or related field is essential. About the Role
The research focused position involves both applied econometrics and applied macroeconomics, undertaking directed research on nowcasting and structural modelling as a member of a multi-institutional team.

Nowcasting is determining and understanding the current state of the economy. It is fundamental to macroeconomic policy making. The availability of new data and methods make it an exciting time to research nowcasting and there is the possibility of making a real policy impact.

The position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant “Nowcasting and Interpreting the Australian Economy” (DP230100959). The aim of this grant is to produce high- quality research papers developing novel nowcasting methodologies that will enable the timely interpretation of economic developments. Fiscal policy will be a particular area of focus. This work is intended to inform economic policy in Australia. The research team includes: Dr Tim Robinson, Professor Kalvinder Shields and Dr Yong Song (University of Melbourne), Professor Kevin Lee (University of Nottingham), Dr Luke Hartigan (University of Sydney), Mr David Stephan, Dr Khanh Hoang and Dr Zhuo Li (Australian Treasury).

Your responsibilities will include:

Collaborating with the Chief and Partner Investigators to conduct the research outlined in the grant
Conducting academic/engaged research under the direction of a supervisor
Producing and disseminating working papers and presentations based on academic research
Who We Are Looking For
You should have experience in at least two of the following areas: state-space modelling, factor models, Structural Vector AutoRegressions (SVARs), and Machine Learning algorithms like Recurrent Neural Networks. Additionally, you should possess knowledge of the relevant applied macroeconomic literature and the ability to apply it, including explaining economic motivations for identification strategies in SVAR. Furthermore, you must have knowledge of, and experience in, at least one of Matlab, R, Python, or similar. The ability to conduct independent research, take initiative, and assume responsibility for developing and completing research papers is crucial. You should also exhibit the ability and willingness to collaborate in teams for successful project outcomes, along with a track record in written communication skills.

You will also have:

A PhD or near completion of a PhD in economics or related field that demonstrates expertise tied to the externally funded project;
Highly developed interpersonal and oral communications skills
An interest in policy-relevant research and the dissemination of that research to non- academic audiences
