Job Summary:
As Occupational Therapist you will provide therapeutic interventions to help patients improve their ability to perform daily activities, enhance their independence, and maximize their quality of life. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for patients of various ages and conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Patient Assessment:
o Evaluate physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of patients through interviews, observation, and clinical assessments.
o Review patient medical history and collaborate with healthcare professionals to gain a holistic understanding of the patient's condition.
• Treatment Planning & Implementation:
o Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs, with a focus on improving functional abilities in daily activities.
o Provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and adaptive techniques to help patients regain or improve their motor, sensory, and cognitive skills.
o Use assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and ergonomic interventions as necessary.
o Continuously monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed to meet evolving goals.
• Patient & Family Education:
o Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, exercises, and strategies to improve independence at home or work.
o Provide guidance on the use of assistive devices and adaptive technologies to promote a safe environment.
• Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team:
o Work closely with physical therapists, speech therapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
o Participate in patient case conferences, providing input on the progress and challenges related to occupational therapy.
• Documentation & Reporting:
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and reports.
o Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in all documentation and patient care activities.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Required:
o Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited program.
o State licensure or certification to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
o Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques, rehabilitation methods, and assistive technologies.
o Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and team members.
o Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care, with an emphasis on improving quality of life.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Preferred:
o Experience in a specific area of occupational therapy (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics, neurology, mental health).
o Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
o Certification in specialized areas such as hand therapy, sensory integration, or neurorehabilitation.
Work Environment:
• Clinical setting, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, or community-based environments.
• May involve working with patients in their homes or workplaces.
• Some travel may be required for home health visits or consultations at different facilities.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift, move, or assist patients as necessary.
• Frequent standing, walking, and bending may be required during patient treatment.
