Job Title:
Carpenter (Full-Time; a minimum 4 year contract with possibility of further extension)
Job Summary:
Follow blueprints and building plans, shape or cut materials to exact measurements with hand tools or power saws, and operate, maintain, and sharpen carpentry tools. Install structures or fixtures, including windows, doors, frames, flooring, trim, and hardware, using hand and power tools.
The annual salary is for $73,500 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities
• Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, doors, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using hand or power tools.
• Level and help erect the build framework.
• Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
• Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
• Examines work to make sure it meets specifications.
• Install door handles, locks, hardware, flooring underlay, insulating material and other fixtures.
• Follow blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients.
• Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
• Operate, maintain and sharpen carpentry tools & equipment.
• Maintain building interiors and exteriors.
• Prepare cost estimates for clients or employers.
• Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions using levels, rules and framing squares.
• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
• Selecting and ordering the material and timber for the projects and preparing the layouts.
• Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
• Assembling prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready to install.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations; and maintain a safe and clean environment.
Tools & Equipment’s:
Measuring and Marking out – Retractable tape measure, wind-up tape measures, scale rule, folding rule etc.
Squares and Bevels – Try square, Mitre Square, Sliding Bevel, Combination Square.
Gauge: Marking Guage, Mortise Gauge, cutting Guage.
Knives, scribes and pencils: Marking Knife, Utility Knife, Scribe, Carpenter’s pencil,
Drawing pencil.
Traditional Hand Saws: Traditional hand saws, Rip Saw, crosscut saw, Panel Saw, Hard Point Saw, Back Saws etc.
Hammers: Claw Hammer, Warrington Hammer, Club Hammer, Sledgehammer.
Other equipment’s include: Screw drivers, Planes, Chisels, File, Rasp, drills, Clamps, levelling tools and power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, planes, routers and trimmers and nail guns etc.
Qualifications/experience:
• Minimum 1-2-year experience preferred in similar setting.
• At least certificate III in Carpentry.
• Ability to communicate well in spoken and written English.
