Gen Fisheries Pty Ltd is currently seeking a motivated Crayfishing Deck Hand to join their team in a full time role in Cervantes. Successful applicants will work on modern crayfishing boats / vessels as part of a team of four consisting of a skipper and three deck hands.
Boats / vessels are based at Cervantes, however, they may operate out of other locations at certain times of year.
Workdays and times will vary so applicants will need to be available Monday to Sunday, 5am to 7pm.
Applicants must hold a AQF Certificate II or III (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). At least one year of relevant experience may substitute for these formal qualifications. They must also hold a current driver's licence and be able to pass D & A testing.
The ideal applicant will also be:
- Physically fit, healthy and able
- Focused on safety
- Able to perform cleaning and maintenance duties, as required
- A team player who works harmoniously with others
- High level of communication skills and able to follow instructions/directions. This includes a sound understanding of spoken and written English.
- Available to work public holidays, weekends and evenings
- Able to take on extra shifts, if required
- A current First Aid certificate is also desirable
Deck Hands may be responsible for the following duties:
- Handling ropes and operating mooring equipment when berthing and unberthing;
- Standing lookout watches at sea and adjusting the ship's course as directed;
- Assisting with cargo operations using on-board equipment and stowing and securing cargo;
- Patrolling ships to ensure safety of the vessel, cargo and passengers;
- Performing routine maintenance and checks on deck equipment, cargo gear, rigging, and lifesaving and fire-fighting appliances;
- Attaching gear and fastening ropes to pots;
- Stacking onboard and setting pots and ropes into water;
- Preparing ropes, attaching ropes and bait, and setting pots into position; and
- Hauling in fishing gear and removing lobsters and other marine life.
A salary between $75,000 - $80,000 (excluding superannuation) will be offered to the successful candidate. Workers must provide their own footwear and will be provided with all appropriate/required safety wear.
