Our client, Tjuwanpa Outstation Resource Centre (Aboriginal Corporation), plays a crucial role in supporting the Western Arrarnta people living across 37 outstations near Ntaria (Hermannsburg) in the Northern Territory. Located approximately 130 kilometres west of Alice Springs, Tjuwanpa services 4,500 square kilometres of Aboriginal Land Trust lands.

Since the incorporation of the Resource Centre in 1984, government grants for outstation housing, water reticulation, and electricity and employment services have been channelled through Tjuwanpa.

Tjuwanpa Outstation Resource Centre has a long-standing reputation for excellence in governance and management, achieved through dedicated training, strategic operations, and strong community engagement. As the premier service provider of Indigenous employment and related services in the region, Tjuwanpa is now seeking a passionate Community Worker to join their team and contribute to the ongoing development and well-being of the Western Arrarnta people.

As a Community Worker, you will be at the forefront of supporting the employment services and broader social initiatives for the Western Arrarnta communities. This role requires a culturally sensitive and proactive individual who can navigate the unique challenges of working in remote Indigenous communities. You will play a pivotal role in empowering individuals and families by facilitating access to employment opportunities, social services, and community resources.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide culturally appropriate support to community members, particularly in relation to employment services and personal development.
• Facilitate and promote participation in employment programs, training opportunities, and other initiatives aimed at improving community well-being.
• Conduct individual assessments to identify employment barriers and develop personalized employment plans for outstation residents.
• Assist job seekers with resume preparation, job applications, interview skills, and other employment readiness activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers, advocating for job placement opportunities for community members.
• Monitor and support individuals who have entered employment, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and assistance to maintain their roles.
• Organize and conduct employment-related workshops and training sessions tailored to the needs of the community.
• Work closely with job seekers to identify barriers to employment and develop tailored strategies to overcome these challenges.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of community interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
• Provide crisis intervention and support where necessary, connecting individuals with appropriate services and resources.
• Advocate on behalf of community members to ensure their needs and concerns are addressed by relevant authorities.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of community engagement strategies and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:
• AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma with at least 2 years’ relevant experience
• At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications
• Proven experience in community work, with a strong preference for experience within Indigenous communities.
• Deep understanding of the cultural, social, and economic challenges faced by Aboriginal people in remote regions.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with community members.
• Experience in employment services, social services, or related fields is highly advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a remote and challenging environment.
