About the Opportunity
You will be responsible for the design, development, operation and maintenance of specialised software applications, with a strong focus on projects for the streamlined operation of experiments at the beamlines and support of the needs of the facility.
As a member of the Scientific Computing group, part of the Controls and Computing department, the Senior Scientific Software Engineer designs, develops, and maintains software applications for our scientific
instruments. These applications are responsible for interacting with hardware, collecting data, as well as processing and analysing the collected data.

Your Duties and Responsibilities
• Gather requirements, plan, design, implement, test, maintain and support new software applications that support the scientific needs for the beamlines at the Australian Synchrotron.
• Evaluate technologies and software packages relevant to experiment control, data collection, data processing and analysis when developing novel software solutions.
• Lead the development and continual improvement of experiment control and data processing tools that support rapid complex data acquisition, analysis and visualisation.
• Facilitate and promote the adoption of procedures and best-practises applicable in scientific software development.
• Strengthen the engagement with other Synchrotron facilities on standards for workflows and data formats.
