As Multicultural Community Engagement Officer (MCEO) you will join our innovative multicultural engagement model that will see you working closely with other casual MCEOs, headspace and a Project Lead, to deliver a program which ensures ongoing community engagement with a number of established and newly emerging multicultural communities in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs. By fostering community relationships and trust, the program seeks to increase access to mental health services and reduce stigma.

Reporting to the Coordinator Multicultural Community Engagement, you will perform the following:

  • Partner with headspace and work closely with identified target communities including Indian, Sri Lankan, and Chinese.
  • Coordinate outreach community engagement initiatives and facilitating focus groups with community members.
  • Develop resources and promote and participate in community focussed mental health awareness programs such as Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) and the Tuning Into Teens (TINT) programs.
    Work closely with the Project Lead you will assist in the development of service engagement plans for the community.
  • Deliver service engagement activities as outlined in the service engagement plan.
  • Co-design and distribute resources for their community.
  • Support client introductions to services (warm referral).
  • Be involved in case conferencing and planning, alongside the Hub clinical team.

Who we’re looking for
If you're a Community Engagement enthusiast, with a keen interest in youth mental health and/or child and family services in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs, you might be exactly the person we're looking for!

The successful candidate will:

  • Identify as belonging to one of the identified target communities (i.e. shares common cultural understandings and experiences with one of the identified communities), and can confidently communicate in the language of the target community group.
  • Demonstrate multicultural community engagement experience working closely with the target group identified.
  • Have well-developed facilitation skills.
  • Holds a clinical qualification and/or background is highly desirable.
