The Opportunity
Reporting to the Mechanical Planner, the Fitter/Shift Fitter will be responsible for executing mechanical maintenance and breakdown support to ensure the ongoing reliability of equipment and machinery at the James Hardie Rosehill Manufacturing Plant.
This may include working with mechanical machinery, welding, pumps, drives and other mechanical items. Our mechanical fitters are critical in the maintenance, upgrades / improvements undertaken on our plants to ensure efficiencies of all machinery to achieve product demands. The role of the Shift Fitter is to ensure these items function at a level that supports the operational team’s requirements for safe, reliable factory processing equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive a safe behavioural culture and ensure safety compliance for all maintenance tasks.
Undertake mechanical maintenance and repairing activities to best ensure the long-term reliability of mechanical equipment and control systems.
Assist with day-to-day mechanical equipment issues
Troubleshoot and fault find various mechanical equipment issues onsite to provide short machine downtime.
Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment
Liaising and working closely with planning and stores personnel to ensure that parts and equipment are available when required to avoid delay and improve task execution.
Working with production and finishing teams to improve communication and interaction between operators and maintenance / engineering personnel, as well as better understand and manage equipment maintenance and resolve problems.
May assemble machines and equipment on-site as well as installing parts if they break, for example; pumps, gear boxes, rollers, shafts
Fitting fabricated metal parts and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment as well as checking the parts.
Driving continuous improvement in the maintenance department through a commitment to training and development, precision maintenance and a ‘closed loop’ approach.
Supporting the Shift Electrician on any electrical work for additional labour support.
SKILLS
Commitment to Work Health and Safety, and Quality Management
Strong troubleshooting and strong analytical skills
SAP or similar CMMS experience desirable
Demonstrated understanding of hydraulics
Demonstrated sound problem solving skills and ability to think outside of the box
Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently within a team environment
Cert. III in Engineering Trade Mechanical or equivalent.
Minimum 4+ years' experience in a similar role, focus on manufacturing plant machinery and equipment.
