ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are currently seeking Junior Production Horticulturists to join our “growing” team! The Junior Production Horticulturists are responsible for assisting the Supervisors with management and implementation of the crop care and picking strategies in order to achieve budgeted production levels.



Responsibilities of these role will include (but are not limited to):

Undertake picking and crop care tasks to ensure target times are achieved
Operate trolley transporters when required
Prepare daily work order in the absence of the Supervisor
Prepare daily estimate in the absence of the Supervisor
Undertake stock control in the absence of the Supervisor
Provide support to Supervisor and staff
Undertake Supervisor role during periods of absence
Manage training schedule of all new recruits
Train new staff at picking and crop care tasks as instructed by the Supervisor
Train staff on correct techniques to ensure efficiency as set by the Supervisor
Retrain staff as required if not performing tasks correctly
Assist with the development of Standard Operating Procedures
Ensure all personnel are adhering to company policies and procedures
Report all fruit issues to Supervisor
Report all faulty equipment and infrastructure to the Supervisor and support with the coordination of the maintenance schedule
Minimise spread of disease through adherence to all hygiene protocols
Maintain crop production and optimal growing conditions
Monitor and evaluate crop and identify and report on the physical health of the crop
Consult the IPM department on the presence of harmful pests and/or diseases
Provide assessment/reports when asked by a Supervisor or Senior Grower including but not limited to improvements that can be implemented to achieve better plant health and fruit settings
Contribute to plant variety trials and report on appropriate measure and selection when asked to do so to ensure optimal plant growth, pest resistance and health
Establishment and planting of new crops. Performing such tasks as:
Planting crops in growing beds
Participate in the removal of finishing crop during the winter season
Apply latest “best practice” methods in relation to limiting the spread of disease
Ensure the maintenance of building and equipment and the control of water supply, reporting any issues to the relevant supervisor or department
Operation of both manual and hydraulic Crop Care trolleys/platforms
Ensure all equipment is maintained and stored appropriately
Ensure greenhouse pathways are kept free of rubbish and trip hazard


ABOUT YOU:

Skills & Experience:

We are seeking motivated, safety conscious individual with the following experience and attributes:

Minimum Cert III or Cert IV qualification or equivalent OR 3 years' experience in this positions plus formal training or a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in this positon.
Experience in all responsibilities/activities shown above.
Current Forklift license (desirable).
Sound mathematical skills.
ChemCert (desirable).
Experienced in the use of Climate Software and with intermediate general computer skills.
Flexible and reliable – available for on call emergency roster.
