Herrenknecht Australia, a subsidiary of the global organization, comprises a small team offering site support to active local tunnelling projects before, during and after TBM excavation. In house engineering capabilities allow us to work with tunnelling contractors to find solutions to unique and challenging problems related to tunnel construction.
We are currently seeking a Project Engineer (Tunnel Boring Machines) to join our Australian team.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, The Project Engineer plays a significant role in overseeing the technical aspects for current and upcoming Tunnel Boring Machine’s (TBM) projects. With a focus on efficiency and innovation, The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating the efforts of various departments in multiple locations, ensuring the projects are completed on time, within budget and highest quality standards. This role requires ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from team members to executive leadership to improve efficiency & delivery of safety in tunnelling.
Key duties & responsibilities include (but not limited to):
• Oversee the logistics, delivery & commissioning of tunnel boring machines and ensure that TBMs are functioning optimally during tunnel excavation.
• Monitor and abide by safety protocols, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) criteria.
• Plan and coordinate TBM-related activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, work procedures, and risk assessment.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on TBM operations, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
• Prepare condition and progress reports weekly and maintain communications with project stakeholders both domestic and international, contractors, and regulatory bodies about all aspects including changes and enhancements to maintain optimal performance.
• Manage project budgets, track expenses, and optimize costs related to TBM operations.
Qualifications, skills & experience required:
• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent,
• 5 years relevant technical experience, ideally with Herrenknecht TBM’s.
• Excellent interpersonal ql and communication skills (oral & written) with confidence to communicate with international stakeholders.
• AutoCAD skills preferred.
• Flexible approach and positive attitude.
• Valid Driving License (Australian or International) to travel between office and project sites.
• Self-motivated and strong team player.
• Resourceful, meticulous and handles pressure well.
• Time & Task management skills to organize and meet deadlines in fast paced environment.
• Full working rights and experience in Australia is essential.
