Sodexo Energy & Resources are looking for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to join our team in Perth, supporting our West Coast business across.

Reporting to the HR Director the successful candidate will be responsible for partnering strategically to drive improvements with our stakeholders and Operators as well as understanding the key HR levers of business performance of the assigned portfolio and support operational leaders drive improvement through considered HR initiatives, that align with segment, country and regional people strategies.

This position is being offered on a 14-month fixed term contract and will be based out of our Balcatta office.

Your job will include but is not limited to

• Work with the Energy & Resources (E&R), People Centre, Transversal (Corporate) functions and Operations leadership team to ensure the business performance, advice and support provided meets business objectives through strong HR leadership
• Manage the delivery of process improvement activities to ensure that Sodexo’s KPIs and SLA standards and contractual obligations are fully achieved
• Work with the leadership team to support talent and performance management processes
• Support and manage the successful implementation of performance appraisals, career management, High-Potential management, and succession planning
• Provide Segment specific training needs inputs to support the L&D strategy
• Project Manage the People activities relating to mobilisations and demobilisations in collaboration with the People Centre, Transversal (Corporate) functions and Operations
• Be a true driver and advocate of Employee Engagement. This includes both process support and advocacy of the Sodexo Engagement process and devising and implementing local engagement improvement activities
• Manage & support HR related projects including providing implementation support to Global, Regional and National projects
• Support the development of wider business goals by leveraging D&I pillars and incorporating it into operations.
• Support change management programs and initiatives within the business and influence key stakeholders

• $123,766.93 to $137,491.06 p/a plus Superannuation, plus vehicle allowance of up to $13,000 p/a

Part of the Waste and Sustainability department, the Resource Recovery Centres and Closed Landfills unit manages the environmental compliance, remediation, and rehabilitation of Council’s closed landfills, in addition to managing the operations of Council’s two Resource Recovery Centres. 

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide effective leadership and management of the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit, to engage and motivate employees to demonstrate organisational values aligned behaviour, and to optimally achieve service standards. 
• Develop leadership skills within the unit, maximising the contribution of senior staff, supervisors, team leaders and employees.
• Coordinate, lead, and maximise the performance of the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit by participating in in the induction, recruitment, performance management and training (internal and external) of employees, including effectively and proactively performing as a member of Waste and Sustainability leadership group.
• Coordinate, develop and oversee the services delivered by the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit, including closed landfill environmental monitoring and compliance, and Resource Recovery Centre operations including customer service, resource recovery, material handling and transport, recycled goods store (tip shop) operations. 
• Coordinate the unit’s senior staff, including the Operations Supervisor and Team Leaders, to maintain a high level of customer service, and to resolve service delivery issues pertaining to Landfills and Resource Recovery Centre services.
• Coordinate, plan, develop, and implement relevant actions from Council’s strategic documents, including the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022-2030, ensuring the timely achievement of actions and requirements. 
• Actively contribute to the development of the department Business Plan, ensuring the timely and effective delivery of actions related to the activities of the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit. 
• Undertake public consultation, as required, in relation to proposed strategies, policies, works and services within the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit. 
• Ensure the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit is customer focused.
• Develop, implement, and monitor service quality and delivery benchmarks to meet Council and community expectations.
• Develop and manage the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit's budget, including fees and charges, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and financial sustainability. 
• Monitor the financial performance of the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit, including the provision of forecasts, projections, and the development of financial reports.
• Ensure the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres unit operates within an appropriate policy framework, consistent with corporate policies and practices, supporting the delivery of services and programs. 
• Ensure all required compliance reporting, including landfill Annual Reports and responses to Environmental Action Notices and Site Management Orders are completed to the required standard and submitted on-time.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills and ability to manage and lead a diverse team of multi-disciplinary staff, preferably in an operational context within a Local Government environment. 
• Demonstrated experience complying with and working to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Experience and working knowledge across a number of functional areas in the waste industry.
• Experience, knowledge and understanding of a range of services disciplines, activities, and delivery within a Local Government environment.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the Landfills and Resource Recovery Centres team.
• Highly developed planning skills, including the ability to develop design and implement standards and policy across a range of activities.
• Well-developed customer service and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with people from a variety of backgrounds. 
• Build strong partnerships with internal and external customers to understand their needs and expectations.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, management, or a related discipline with relevant experience working in the field.
• Current driver’s licence (experience driving light vehicles off-road/at landfills preferred).
