The Big Picture:
Howden Australia has a need for a Mine Cooling Service Engineer to promote our Howden product range and proactively collaborate with the local Howden team to develop opportunities and contribute toward business growth. This position will serve as the technical point of contact for all customers from sales technical support to site execution.
The main focus of this role is Aftermarket support in the general overhaul, repair and testing of rotating machinery in workshops. Site installation, alignment and commissioning of ammonia refrigeration plant including auxiliary equipment and pressurised systems. Site servicing and troubleshooting on refrigeration equipment at customer sites. On-site repairs of refrigeration equipment and preparation of quotes.
The successful candidate will work on compressors situated at customers sites or mines, local and in region. These include ammonia refrigeration plants and gas compression plants. Services also include screw and piston compressors from other manufacturers.

What needs to be done?
Your responsibilities will include:
• Visiting sites to undertake balancing &/or laser alignment, identify the cause of the problem & rectify this on site (if possible), or advise of further action to be taken to ensure our customers production losses are minimised.
• Undertake servicing in terms of customer planned maintenance contracts and breakdowns, check equipment, carry out required maintenance & produce a report of work completed in order to comply with the Service Level Agreement.
• Commissioning of new installations including:
• Supervision of new installed products, including fans, air heaters & compressors.
• Checking the installation and alignment of equipment, including starting machinery, checking vibrations & temperatures & running the fan for a test period.
• Completing the Commissioning Report including check sheets & a Completion Certificate for contract closures.
• Ensuring the machine is ready for full production service.
• Manage contract staff, liaise with client representatives, budget management & maintain schedules including progress reports, OHSE, quality control, equipment & accommodation management to ensure acceptable results are achieved for both Howden & our clients.
• Carry out detailed machinery analysis, interpret results & liaise with the Howden Engineering Department on how to most efficiently resolve our customers’ problems.
• Provide Aftermarket sales support including survey & reporting & conducting site visits with our Design Engineers
What do you need to bring?
You have N4 (Mechanical) or Olifantsfontein trade test as a millwright / fitter & turner, certified to work with ammonia systems or on pressurised vessels/systems
You have an understanding of Instrumentation & Control logic and PID-PFD, with 5 years’ experience in service/repair of rotating machinery and auxiliary components.
With your excellent verbal & written communication skills, you are comfortable & confident in dealing with customers, often in difficult situations, when they are concerned about production downtime. You possess a proactive, attitude & you are solutions oriented in all situations. You must also have a valid driving licence and be willing to work away from home.
The following would be highly regarded:
• Higher than N4 trade testing
• Screw compressor & turbo blower knowledge.
• 5 years field experience- Installation and commissioning
• Basic computer literacy
• Technical report writing
