As a Staff Software engineer, you will be part of a squad within the Highvalue and International Payments crew. You will be working with engineers on uplifting business capabilities and modernise our tech stack. You'll be hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the evolution of this system by designing and developing micro services, data access layers, REST API(s), and writing integration services for third-party API consumption, manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing, as well as learning more about back-end engineering. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds and provide technical guidance to the junior members of the team.

Tech Skills

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:

• Hands-on experience in developing backend applications using C# .NET Core, ASP.NET, MVC, REST APIs and WebAPI

• Demonstrated knowledge of micro services and REST API Integration

• Ability to create database designs and database programming for both relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. MSSQL, Oracle, Aurora)

• Modern Javascript frameworks (React) and Scripting languages – Javascript, Typescript, HTML/CSS, JQuery.

• Source code control, build and deployment tools (CI/CD) – GitHub, TeamCity, Octopus deploy.

• Cloud Experience on AWS (CloudFormation, Code Pipeline etc.) or Azure DevOps.

• Experience with event driven architecture and kafka.

• Understanding of monitoring tools like splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana.

• Build and hosting technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) – Desirable

• Be able to support and resolve issues in tech stacks that run in .NET webservices.

• Knowledge of security best practices and principles.

As a Chief Engineer in our SRE team, you’ll be a technical leader driving through leadership, designing and implementing largve scale solutions, as well as influencing and engaging the Organisation’s senior stakeholders on modern best practices for improving reliability through the DevOps lifecycle.

• As a matured Big Thinker, you’ll work closely with senior leaders on the strategic development of the SRE practice.

• Creating, developing, installing and implementing tools required to support the operational management (including security) of software applications and systems

• Testing, debugging, diagnosing and correcting errors and faults in an applications programming language within established testing protocols, guidelines and quality standards to ensure programs and applications including technical security controls perform to specification

• Identifying technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures and methods, and using software engineering to develop scalable and sustainable improvements

• Partner with product and engineering stakeholders at all the different levels to influence and educate our awesome builder and operational teams on SRE philosophy, principles, practices, and benefits from Engineer to EGM Levels

• Be an ambassador for modern engineering and reliability practices, sharing information and supporting others in their learning, and building strong and energetic team cultures.

• Take great delight in designing, building, and delivering infrastructure, code, or services to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of our internal or customer-facing services

• You’ll enjoy every opportunity to perform deep dives into both systemic and latent reliability issues; partnering with software and systems engineers across the organization to produce and roll out fixes.

• Provide leadership to mentor other SREs, sharing your best practices and hard-earned learnings for tackling issues across the entire stack; hardware, software, application, and network

We are interested in hearing from people who have extensive experience in:

• A Chief-Level Software Engineering role, partnering with senior stakeholders and leading a culture of data-driven reliability, monitoring and automation aligned to SRE principles

• Designing, developing, testing and supporting applications and systems

• Managing and scaling distributed systems in a public, private or hybrid cloud environment

• Creating and developing tools required to support the operational management (including security) of software applications and systems

• Identifying technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures and methods, and using software engineering to develop scalable and sustainable improvements

• High-volume or critical production service environment.

• Designing, developing and releasing code in one or more languages like Go, Python, .Net, or Java. · Previous SRE or DevOps experience

Tech skills

• 10+ years in software engineering, expert in at least one Programming language (e.g., Golang, Python)

• Strong experience with modern software development practices using tools such as git for source control, and CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy or similar; Strong public cloud experience in AWS , GCP or Azure

• Experience leading teams of engineers driving outcomes using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, AppDynamics,

• Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Linux internals, networking, containers, and troubleshooting

• Experience in applying SRE Practices in large organisations and excellent Communication and Problem-Solving skills

The Role: Be a part of an exciting growth journey.

• Full life-cycle commercial software development and maintenance – analyze application specifications, document user requirements, architect/design, develop, and maintain software solutions using .NET & C#

• Manage, monitor and manipulate the server farm behind ServiceNow cloud
• Work directly on or with the servers to enable and optimize capacity utilization for the ServiceNow customer base
• Enhance processes and tools necessary to simplify and provide consistent project execution
• Provide proactive management and innovation to ensure 100% success of ServiceNow cloud automation
