What You'll Do
We have an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Payroll Manager to join the People & Culture team where you will be accountable for setting the direction and implementation of strategies to ensure a contemporary and best practice centralised payroll function.
In this highly visible role, it is imperative you demonstrate a deep understanding of customer’s wants and needs and engage in opportunities that are fully aligned to the business and company strategy factoring in where we are now and where we are going. The role presents as the expert in terms of what is happening within the industry, stays across technology and market trends and considers the future possibilities.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity and is based from our Sydney CBD and Sydney Olympic Park offices with the flexibility to work from home and sites across Australia as agreed and required for the role.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
- As a thought leader in the field drive the payroll governance direction and frameworks
- Ensures team understand what they are doing and why and create team activities which balance day-to-day activities with long-term needs
- Actively drive the right outcomes and strategies required to ensure that Payroll is ahead of the curve in response to rising regulatory and legislative requirements
- Lead the preparation of Business Cases, Audit and Risk Committee Executive Papers and CEO Reports and communicate/present to Steering Committees/Key Stakeholders/Executives as required
- Deliver a centralised ANZ payroll operating model and establish performance measures and service level goals to track the service delivery of the team
- Shares customer insights with the team regularly and establishes a system to collect customer feedback
- Continuously assess the workloads of the team and resourcing accordingly
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities that will deliver tangible benefits to the business and wider organisation that are simple and standardised to optimise efficiencies and controls
- Continuously review the performance and effectiveness of payroll vendors to KPI’s
- Point of escalation for the team on complex operational issues and queries
- Accountability of the overall end to end payroll including annual calendar of events
- Oversee significant projects that addresses changes and developments that can affect business units and the organisation
- Develop and plan regular project status reporting
- Identification of risks, change impacts and dependencies
- Representing and having involvement with committees, change management programs and stakeholders
- Mentor and coach team members to build team capability
- Develop robust business cases to support investment in new initiatives
- Work closely with the GM People Services and Group Finance team managing budget to target.
What You'll Bring
Essential
- Strong background in payroll service delivery and setting Payroll strategies, direction and priorities.
- 4-6 years of Payroll Shared Services management experience and Payroll qualified.
- Knowledge of legislative requirements in respect of PAYG, FBT, payroll tax, STP and EEO principles.
- Sound understanding of Industrial Award/Enterprise Agreements.
- Strong leadership ability, excellent communication and well developed interpersonal skills.
- Numeric accuracy, strong attention to detail and strong usage of excel spreadsheets.
- Strong project management, organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.
- A proactive and resilient mindset, because there will be challenges that need to be overcome and problems that need to be solved.
- Exceptional communication skills and an ability to foster trust and effective relationships across all levels and diverse businesses.
- Payroll transformation experience and award/EA interperation experiences
Desirable
- Experience working with Dayforce, PayGlobal and any ERP system
- Tertiary qualification in Finance.
