About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer – Overhead to join our team based at our Market Street Head Office located in Melbourne’s CBD on a full time and permanent basis.
This position is responsible for the provision of engineering expertise as well as scoping, design, and estimating of distribution, sub-transmission and station projects. This position is responsible for minor survey works and asset recording and for the implementation of appropriate policies and procedures with regard s to distribution and sub-transmission assets.
What you’ll deliver:
• Provide effective engineering design and advice in relation to the design of underground lines, overhead lines and substations, to agreed standards, and in accordance with the relevant technical manuals, OH&S Act, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines and customer requirements.
• Undertake minor surveying activities in accordance with the customer requirements, agreed timeframes, cost effective manner.
• Assist with the development of design standards & policy in accordance with organisational, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
• Prepare detailed construction plans for Distribution Design projects and maintain system records in accordance with appropriate standards and customer requirements.
• Provide effective design management to deliver projects of medium complexity within agreed time frames, quality and cost constraints
• Manage customers effectively by ensuring appropriate and regular communication on project progress
• Actively support and implement new or modified processes and systems
• Provide technical expertise and mentoring to design personnel in elements of Design and Design management.
• Monitor, review and reconcile time, costs and quality of network designs and ensure unproductive time is maintained at a minimum and all hours worked for are charged accordingly in a timely manner.
• Maintain a high level of knowledge relating to GIS, AutoCAD applications and/or other design and asset recording drafting systems to meet customer requirements.
To succeed in this role you’ll have:
• Eligible and working towards one of the following:
o National Engineering Registration (NER)
o Registered Professional Engineer of Professional Australia (RPEng)
• Eligible and working towards being registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA)
• Detailed knowledge and experience in Distribution Design principles and procedures.
• Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD design (or equivalent), electrical networks, operation, and construction plan
• Understanding of Safety in Design practices
• Demonstrated experience in Distribution Design projects.
• Very experienced in using AutoCad
• High level experience in customer and stakeholder negotiation.
• Proven ability of developing and applying new technology/innovations
• Proven ability to apply project Design Management principles
• High level experience in customer and stakeholder negotiation
