The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) Griffith University Road Safety Research Collaboration involves road safety collaborative projects with industry, government and other road safety stakeholders. This role involves working as part of a research team to successfully gather vital work within the domain of fleet safety which includes both light and heavy vehicles as well as research in motorcycle safety.

The Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) was formed in 2006 and is one of Australia's largest university aquatic ecosystem research groups with globally recognised expertise in river, catchment and coastal ecosystems and the interaction with these systems in society.  ARI combines outstanding scholarship with making a significant contribution to society through providing knowledge and advice. This Research Fellow will contribute to the ARC Industry Fellowship Project, "A New Gully Model for a Healthier Great Barrier Reef", using cutting-edge model emulation techniques in applied mathematics to generate insights on gully erosion and remediation at the catchment scale. Collaborate with the Queensland Water Modelling Network and the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

The Research Fellow will focus 80% on the ARC project and will also include a 20% teaching component, which involves teaching into the applied mathematics major in the School of Environment and Science.

This position provides high level research assistance for the research project: Implementing cognitive interventions for older people in memory clinics: A pilot feasibility study, as directed by Associate Professor Kerryn Pike. The primary research is a pilot trial, conducted by the Australian Dementia Network (ADNeT) Cognitive Interventions Working Group. The trial aims to determine whether a clinician training package can increase the availability of cognitive interventions for older adults with mild cognitive impairment through memory clinics.

The Research Fellow (Grade 1) will  work with a team of researchers on the NHMRC Project “Unmasking HIV latency through disruption of HIV synapses”. The Research Fellow Grade 1 position will sit within Griffith University’s Centre of Planetary Health and Food Security and will be associated with the project “Life in the Shipping Lane; The Cost of Increasing Disturbance to Whales”, which is funded by an Australian Research Council Linkage grant. This project represents a community collaboration between Griffith University, The Port of Brisbane Pty. Ltd., Healthy Land and Water, Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI), and The Stradbroke Flyer,  as well as The University of the Sunshine Coast, Murdoch University and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

To be carry out this role you will be required to:

• Conduct boat-based line transect surveys for humpback whale distribution and abundance estimates.

The Research Engineer will support the BioSpine project related to font-end software development, and maintenance of BioSpine’s system architecture and associated codebase/s. This position will also design, document, implement, execute, maintain, and report on benchmark testing to comply with industry and regulatory standards. 

Essential skills / experience:

• React JS, Elastic UI, Next.JS, Store.JS
• MERN stack
• Demonstrated GUI project experience, with appropriate error handling to maintain front end stability
• Proficient use of GitHub repositories and action workflows
• Developing detailed software documentation

Desirable skills / experience:

• Python, C++, CMake, PowerShell
• Developing unit tests
• Maintaining Continuous Integration systems
• Use of VSCode for software development
• Experience using Robot Operating System (ROS2)
• Automating data storage management (e.g., WebDAV or FTP)
