This role is a fixed-term parental leave cover until the end of January 2025.
As Internal Communications Coordinator you’ll lead a team of internal communications specialists, establish a reputation as a trusted advisor for senior leaders and deliver critical internal communications that have an impact.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the development of strategic internal communications campaigns and projects to raise awareness of Council services, programs, projects, initiatives and events.
- Develop and execute an annual strategic internal communications plan for the organisation.
- Strategically review and evolve our internal communications channels to ensure they are engaging, innovative, targeted, appropriate and cost-effective.
- Lead and motivate a team of internal communications specialists to deliver a range of critical communications activities to boost staff engagement and interaction.
- Safeguard and enhance Council’s reputation by identifying issues, risks and opportunities

- You will develop line-of-sight across the organisation and be a champion for the big picture, working closely with stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of their challenges and support critical projects that protect and enhance our reputation with the community.
- A strong writer with a critical eye for detail, you’ll thrive in a complex and fast-moving environment, and stay calm under pressure while juggling multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- You’ll be adept and willing to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, balancing often competing needs with complex policy, process, organisational and political dynamics.
- You’ll have a passion for storytelling and continually look for opportunities to craft and deliver a compelling narrative that drives value for the organisation and influences positive change.
- A key voice in the Customer and Strategy division, you’ll provide strategic internal communications thought leadership and support to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Leadership Team, Mayor and Councillors and support the policy direction of the Council.
- You will form a strong partnership with the Manager, Strategic Communications and Advocacy to manage the tactical execution of Council’s annual strategic internal communications plan.
