Valsoft Corporation is looking for an experienced and dynamic Controller to join our team!

The Controller will report to the Portfolio Head of Finance. This individual will coordinate and manage period-end close, budgeting/forecasting, statutory compliance and reporting, integrations of new businesses, and ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis for a portfolio of acquired companies, as well as lead projects impacting their accounting and provide guidance on the more complex accounting issues.

What your day will look like:

• Monitor and analyze the performance strategies to identify areas of opportunity and respond with action plans to ensure execution to meet and exceed financial targets.
• Drive the financial planning of the company by analyzing the performance and risks of the portfolio and applying the KPI framework.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly business reviews for portfolio companies that highlight results, remediation plans for underperformers, and strategic initiatives to drive organic growth to the senior management team.
• Build and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts, and track KPIs.
• Monitor the financial health of the portfolio and ensure positive cash flow.
• Develop strategies to increase return on investment and profitability.
• Maintain high-level interaction with the corporate finance department.
• Actively participate in the processes related to the sale or acquisition of companies.
• Apply Valsoft Finance best practices to all companies within the portfolio.
• Take ownership of all finance-related matters for companies acquired into the portfolio.

Financial Reporting

• Oversee and review accounting tasks, including tax and compliance.
• Own the monthly financial close process for portfolio companies.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Build processes and ensure compliance with corporate policies and reporting requirements. Identify and manage differences between corporate consolidation accounting policies and local statutory reporting requirements.
• Ensure effective financial internal controls and continually evaluate established policies and procedures.
• Optimize internal reporting processes for efficiency.
• Prepare for and support the corporate audit by providing necessary documentation.
• Lead and organize the annual statutory audits and ensure all filings are complete.

Team Leadership and Development

• Set targets for and supervise all accounting and finance personnel as your team grows.
• Provide leadership and develop a high-performing scalable finance team in a decentralized finance environment, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Train and coach teams to ensure they have the knowledge and resources necessary to be successful.

Financial Systems

• Support Netsuite rollout activities to portfolio companies by ensuring data integrity.
• Conduct situational assessments, identify gaps and opportunities for automation, make recommendations, and direct the implementation of such changes as required to improve financial systems and related processes.

Integration Support

• Develop, identify, and execute financial integration and onboarding plans for new acquisitions in partnership with the business transformation team.
• Integration activities include ERP system implementation, account mapping, rollout of Valsoft reporting requirements, and governance standards.
• Establish and monitor monthly reporting cadence. Review all deliverables for data integrity, quality, and accuracy.
• Identify discrepancies between acquired company accounting policies and Valsoft corporate policies. Remediate discrepancies by revaluing accounts and engineering and implementing go-forward reporting processes.
• Prepare purchase price allocations and ensure the completeness and accuracy of opening balance sheet accounting prepared in accordance with Valsoft accounting policies.
• Calculate and monitor deferred acquisition payment liabilities.
• Create the first bottoms-up forecast in partnership with the acquired business.
• Roll out and apply Valsoft KPI management framework.

• A qualified financial accountant (CPA) with at least a bachelor's degree or above in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or similar is essential.
• 5–8 years of experience in a similar role, including at least 2+ years in team management.
• Ability to manage risks by ensuring that effective and efficient internal controls are in place without compromising operational efficiency and flexibility.
• Extensive knowledge and skill in multiple disciplines to be able to support business integration activities effectively and a capacity to understand and interpret conflicting goals and needs of diverse groups.
• Fast learner and adaptable – excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Oracle NetSuite ERP (or similar) is considered an asset.
• Ability to visualize efficient processes and implement them.
• Excellent organizational skills and time management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
• Being fluent in the English language, written and verbal, is essential.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Australia.

• Consolidation of asset performance and macro inputs to drive insights into past and forward estimates of performance for Octopus’s funds.
• Performing scenario and sensitivity analysis at a portfolio level to assess impact of the various equity exposures in Octopus’s asset portfolio. Clear articulation of key messages and insights to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide support in maintaining and operating the various asset, and fund level models that have been developed by the business to be used in the planning process ensuring reliability, accuracy, and suitability for use. This requires integrating oneself with all aspects of the business to understand the needs and challenges of the business and how the right tools can be used and further developed to support the business.
• Ensuring that the various financial models used in the business integrates with each other and will result in insights that support the business in making key decisions. 
• Onboarding new assets into the operating asset models from their relevant investment models’ post-acquisition.
• Refreshing models with updates to economic, pricing, cost, and generation level inputs, whilst ensuring rigor and best practice, along with (and championing the discipline of) proper version control in models used within the business.
• Assisting in liaising with model auditors, answering audit questions and making relevant changes to models.

About the role:

We are looking for a hands-on and proactive Senior Financial Accountant who will ensure compliance with accounting standards, timely month-end closing, drive our technical accounting expertise, and support the financial health of Ofload through accurate and timely reporting.

This role oversees revenue and COGS recognition, manage and complete the monthly close process, and reconcile the consolidated balance sheet while collaborating cross-functionally to enhance processes.

What you’ll do:

• Compliance and Technical Expertise:
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
• Assist in drafting technical accounting papers and policies to support complex accounting positions.
• Month-End Close:
• Perform and oversee the monthly close process through the preparation of journal entries and detailed reconciliations.
• Oversee the month-end recognition process for revenue and COGS, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial standards.
• Balance Sheet Management:
• Manage and reconcile the consolidated balance sheet, maintaining accuracy and consistency across all accounts and ensuring it reflects the true financial position of the company.
• Audit and Tax Coordination:
• Act as a key liaison with external auditors and tax accountants to ensure timely and efficient compliance with statutory obligations.
• Process Improvement and Collaboration:
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align financial processes with broader organizational goals.

Qualifications and Experience:

• CA/CPA fully qualified.
• Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
• Strong experience in technical accounting treatments, including AASB16, revenue recognition, goodwill & impairment, and share-based payments.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Portfolio Financial Controller to join our finance team. As a Portfolio Financial Controller, you will play a key role in overseeing the financial health of our diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance to support decision-making.

• Manage and conduct investigations, this is inclusive of developing investigation and risk plans, securing evidence, interviewing witnesses and drawing objective and fair conclusions, preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
