Bitcoin Platform 

The Bitcoin Platform team develops infrastructure for Block to send, receive and custody bitcoin by operating a stack for both cold, hot, and lightning wallets. Our goal is to bring bitcoin to people around the world, unlocking previously impossible use cases to accelerate a world built on better money. The team is composed of engineers that specialize in backend, security, and blockchain engineering.

Bitcoin Platform Engineering is composed of two teams: Custody and Trading Engineering. We're responsible for managing and improving our hot and cold Bitcoin wallets, handling transfers in and out of our wallets, and working on next generation Bitcoin technology and features like running a Lightning network node. You will be responsible for designing, building, troubleshooting and improving Bitcoin platform features, services, and infrastructure.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our TaaS division in Sydney / Melbourne. The primary purpose of this role is to work on platform upgrade/migration projects related to security vulnerabilities. This upgrade work will involve developing and patching security vulnerabilities across TaaS platforms.

Analyse our monthly vulnerability scanning reports and fix the vulnerability based on the report recommendation.

Perform vulnerability patching of application/software like upgrading libraries and upgrading web application servers and load balancers.

Reporting to Engineering Manager – Enablement , the Software Engineer will collaborate with the TaaS security engineer team to get critical and high vulnerabilities across all platforms down to zero.

What you'll do as a Software Engineer:

• Develop and maintain Java-based applications, ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Design and implement BPMN.
• Utilize Docker and container technologies for application deployment and management.
• Integrate and work with Apache Camel for routing rules.
• Configure and manage Keycloak for identity and access management.
• Manage user authentication and authorization using Active Directory.
• Handle application configuration, testing, and deployment processes.
• Work with SQL Server for database management and operations.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Tomcat application servers, including upgrades to newer versions (e.g., Tomcat 9).
• Configure and manage Apache HTTP Server, including possible load balancer configurations for new headers.
• Ensure code quality through reviews, testing and adherence to best practices

Hybrid Working

About the role

We’re looking for a Principal Backend Software Engineer to help build out our engineering team in Sydney, to work on the Engine Platform and make our existing features work for banks all over the world as well as building new features from scratch that Starling hasn’t released in the UK market.

This is an exciting opportunity to build a team from scratch and grow the Starling culture into a new region.

The Squiz product team is expanding as it works to deliver a cloud-based digital experience platform (DXP). Squiz DXP (Digital Experience Platform) is a software solution that helps businesses to create and manage digital experiences for their customers. It provides a wide range of tools and features that can be used to build and maintain websites, mobile apps, and other digital channels.

As a Software Engineer for the Search core product team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining a world-class search engine product using best practices and techniques. The core team is currently undertaking significant enhancements to the core search engine, with a focus on cutting edge technologies such as AI/LLM integration.

Responsibilities

• Create, improve and maintain code, with a focus on back-end development of the search engine core
• Contribute towards C to C++ uplift of existing code base
• Development of code that has been run in production environments with users
• Develop/enhance robust application code which meets all technical requirements
• Apply best development practices across all your work

Skills

• Experience using C/C++ coding languages, experience with Java would also be beneficial
• Knowledge and interest in information retrieval and/or machine learning is a major benefit but not essential

• Some understanding of DevOps principles and practices would be a plus
