About Your Role

The Sustaining NSW Families (SNF) social worker has a key role in the SNF team and is introduced to every family participating in the program. the SNF social worker is considered an integral part of the SNF program, rather than an additional service the family has been ‘referred’ to for management.

The social worker position provides an important function in the team in addressing families’ needs that are outside of the scope of the nurse home visitor role. The social worker position augments the role of the nurse home visitor in the therapeutic relationship working with children and parents, by allowing the nurse home visitor to concentrate effort on the parent-child relationship and the parents’ job of parenting.

The social worker has a recognised clinical speciality within Women and Children's Health and works in an area that requires high levels of clinical expertise and knowledge in the speciality. The social worker is able to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision.
