Mechanical Engineering Technician

IPS Australia is the largest independent service provider for rotating equipment in Australia.
Our workshops are based in Somersby NSW, & Kwinana Beach WA, and our business is to maintain and provide spare parts for rotating equipment such as steam and gas turbines, pumps, compressors and blowers, gearboxes, as well as reciprocating compressors.
IPS Australia is currently looking for qualified Mechanical Engineering Technician with 2+ years experience in rotating equipment to be based at Somersby Workshop, but also work on sites throughout Australia, New Zealand, PNG and Pacific Islands. Your role main responsibilities will include:
• Carry out field service activities on rotating machinery from various manufacturers
• Engagement in field service activities away from the workshop. This could involve travel and spending time away from the home base.
• Support of all activities related to the service, installation, repair or maintenance of IPS Australia and client products and other products taken on for service or repair
• Inspection and repair on valves including testing and reporting
• Strip, inspect, repair, rebuild, commission machinery including reporting and recommendations
• Supervise a team of mechanical fitters and is capable of working autonomously
• Support the operation of the service activities with technical expertise
• Disassembling faulty parts and tools and repair or replace defective parts
• Fitting and assembling parts, tools or sub-assemblies
• Checking accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools or sub-assemblies
• Provision of technical service of a varied nature ensuring compliance with specifications provided by represented companies and clients, and that jobs are completed to schedule and to the required quality standards
• Examination of detailed drawings or specification to find out job, material and equipment requirements
• Support of the Workshop Manager in all general service enquiries including quotations, orders and control of stock, consumables etc. in the workshop

You will work mainly on:
• Steam and gas turbines
• Axial, centrifugal, multistage, integrally gear compressors and expanders
• Screw compressors
• Fans and blowers
• Industrial gearboxes
• Reciprocating compressors and valves
• All type of rotors
Ability to travel to field locations within Australia is required. The applicant will be able to work on his own or part of a team according to OHS& E standard.

To be considered you will be:
• Master/bachelor's degree or a certificate IV in Mechanical Engineering
• 2+ years rotating equipment experience
• experience in project management - favourable but not essential
• professional accreditation such as CPEng, NER, RPEng, RPEQ (favourable but not essential)
