How you will make an impact: Cabrini is committed to delivering safe, effective, high quality healthcare services in partnership with patients and their families. The Associate Director, Patient Safety will support the Director, Clinical Quality and Patient Safety to drive a focus on patient safety across Cabrini Health. This new position will lead the patient safety portfolio embedding a framework and toolkit for adverse patient safety event (clinical incident) reviews, mortality reviews and Statutory Duty of Candour requirements. Working collaboratively with members of the Quality and Patient Safety team, clinical teams and the Patient Experience /Patient Liaison departments, the Associate Director, Patient Safety will contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement which includes implementation of recommendations from patient safety event reviews. Key responsibilities include:

Leading the patient safety/clinical incident management system including notification and review of adverse events, monitoring progress of reviews and completion of open disclosure processes.
Providing guidance for clinical service directorates and clinical managers in event review processes.
Promoting an organisational culture that allows safety issues to be openly reported, discussed, investigated and managed.
Providing managers and staff with education and support in relation to incident identification and management aiming to improve overall incident awareness, the need for prompt escalation when required and timely conduct of open disclosure.
Overseeing improvements to the clinical incident reporting system, RiskMan and the adoption contemporary classifications that support organisational reporting.
In collaboration with clinical directors, conduct patient and family meetings providing a supportive and comfortable environment for patients and families to share their experiences.

What you will bring to the role: To be successful in the role, you will have strong knowledge of quality improvement principles and processes as well as effective interpersonal skills. You will also need to have the following:

AHPRA registration - Registered Nurse (essential).
Post-graduate leadership or management training (preferred).
Experience in a senior nursing position in an acute hospital setting.
Experience leading patient safety event reviews including liaison with impacted patients and families.
Detailed understanding of SDC including SAPSE reviews, sentinel event reviews and legislative requirements.
Working knowledge of national safety and quality health services standards, specifically the actions which relate to delivery of clinical care, patient safety and clinical documentation.
Knowledge of clinical incident and quality management processes, frameworks and tools (RCA, London protocol etc).
Understanding of legislative and accreditation requirements within acute health services.
