Reporting & Accountability: The Diversional Therapist reports directly to the Leisure and Lifestyle Team Coordinator.
The Diversional Therapist at Bethsalem Care is responsible for the delivery of diversional therapy and lifestyle programs tailored to meet the individual and group needs of residents. The therapist will work within their capabilities to contribute to the overall goals and objectives of Bethsalem Care, ensuring a high standard of care and well-being for residents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Resident Care:
Demonstrate and promote a caring and compassionate approach to resident care.
Maintain, promote, and respect the rights, dignity, and spiritual and cultural differences of all residents.
Communication and Collaboration:
Report regularly to the Lifestyle Coordinator, keeping them informed of all aspects of diversional therapy.
Maintain effective communication with all other staff members.
Professional Development:
Maintain professional knowledge and skills and work within their level of competence.
Participate in staff development by completing the required education programs.
Program Planning and Implementation:
Plan, implement, and evaluate group and individual activity programs that promote the psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of the residents based on their assessed needs.
Assist with the design of plans and programs that meet the specific needs of residents, such as those living with dementia.
Assist residents during meal times, morning, and afternoon tea as required.
Provide residents with the opportunity to learn new skills through group or individual activities.
Safety and Risk Management:
Promote resident and staff safety by undertaking appropriate risk assessments of programmed activities.
Maintain accurate documentation as per legislative and organisational requirements.
Participate in Accreditation and Quality Assurance programs to promote best practices and high standards of resident care.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS):
Consult with management, supervisors, and employees on policies, procedures, or workplace issues affecting health and safety.
Ensure a safe environment by complying with legislation, policy, and procedures related to safe practice.
Report accidents, injuries, and "near miss" incidents to supervisors as soon as possible.
Support any injured worker during the return-to-work process and notify the coordinator of any difficulties.
Work Health and Safety Responsibilities:
Comply with all health and safety instructions, policies, and procedures to protect personal and others' safety.
Use all provided safety equipment appropriately.
Ensure a safe workplace by not consuming alcohol or drugs that could endanger safety.
Report or recommend measures to avoid, eliminate, or minimize hazards.
REQUIREMENTS:
Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents are encouraged to apply.
Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (or currently enrolled and actively progressing towards completion).
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the role.
Demonstrated understanding of issues related to Aged Care and the ageing process.
Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Honest and trustworthy.
Respectful and compassionate.
Demonstrates sound work ethics.
Flexible and understanding of the changing needs of residents.
Maintains strict confidentiality in line with Bethsalem Care’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policy.
