The team is seeking a Director to lead the APAC Design Engineering, with hands-on mission critical equipment/system design and implementation experience, to become part of our global engineering team. As a Director you will be part of a highly creative and effective leadership team comprised of Architects, and all engineering disciplines including specialists (e.g. Acoustics) tasked with developing regional strategies for capacity delivery and challenging the status quo. You will be responsible for delivery of projects, applying design quality controls, and providing technical guidance to team members. As a subject matter expert, you will be responsible for the design of prototypical DC facilities, localization of conceptual innovations, solve large scale implementation issues, and build a strong relationships with the regional industry.

Key job responsibilities

- Full ownership of the design of all AWS operated data centers within the APAC region (including China, Japan and India).
- Ownership of design related scope through the construction and commissioning phases of all APAC projects.
- Support the deployment of new AWS products into the field requiring different types of infrastructure, in your region
- Input into global design standards and generational data center template designs
- All management related leadership and administrative functions (staffing, leadership, expenses, performance management, salaries, goal setting, guidance, training, mentoring, promotions and terminations, and career development).
- Oversight of design consultancy firms.
- Working with the wider APAC project delivery team to drive cost and schedule efficiencies to allow the business react in an agile way to demand signals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering, or architecture and 15+ years of experience in design of complex mission critical projects min 10+ years in multi-disciplinary engineering leadership role.
- Broad understanding across civil, structural, architecture, mechanical and electrical disciplines plus specialist disciplines including, acoustics, ICT, fire and security including driving continuous improvement methodologies and practices.
- Detailed knowledge of full life cycle of project delivery from land acquisition, through concept design, detailed design, permitting, equipment procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Proven track record in creating and releasing high quality, consistent documentation for team assignments, processes, standards and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards including experience in developing and presenting business case analysis to senior leadership.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Business (MBA)
- Chartered or Professional Engineer (PE)
- 10+ years of experience in Data Center design and construction.
- Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations in multiple jurisdictions across the APAC region.
- Equipment manufacturing/Vendor management/Sustainable design experience.
