Hunter Marine Surveyors expanded to the Pilbara in mid-2017, surveying ships loading iron ore in Dampier and Port Walcott for RTIO. The client is currently seeking the right candidate for the Marine Surveyor in a full-time permanent role in Pilbara.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting surveys and inspections on a range of vessels to assess their condition, safety, and compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires a thorough understanding of marine principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate findings clearly.
The other main responsibilities of this role include coordinating ship loading activities, assessing and reporting on ship and cargo conditions, and ensuring compliance with marine standards.
Qualifications and experience:
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Marine Surveying or any related qualification. A bachelor degree in Nautical Science or a related field will be highly regarded.
• Certification as a Marine Surveyor from a recognized authority is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine surveying or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge of national and international maritime regulations and standards.
Specific responsibilities of the role include:
• Conduct thorough surveys and inspections of vessels, including hull, machinery, and safety equipment.
• Evaluate the structural integrity, seaworthiness, and compliance of vessels with national and international regulations.
• Prepare detailed reports outlining survey findings, recommendations, and any necessary repairs or modifications.
• Work closely with clients, shipowners, and regulatory bodies to ensure all surveys meet the required standards.
• Conduct inspections when and as required both on and off-shore
• Monitoring vessel schedules and arrange and prioritise tasks across multiple vessels
• Assess scenarios, provide recommendations verbally and written to the relevant parties
• Gather data including ships data, running logs and photos as required
• Ensure compliance with marine safety and occupational health & safety regulations
• Provide technical support for vessel loading activities
• Provide marine and technical consultancy services
• Provide guidance to customers and other staff associated with the loading of vessel
• Represent the company in a professional manner and adhere to ethical standards
• Travel as required for the role
Essential requirements for this role include:
• Authorisation to live and work in Australia
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to travel frequently to various locations for surveys and inspections
• Valid Australian Driver's Licence
• Master Mariner Unlimited Licence
• Valid MSIC or the ability to obtain one
Other required skills include ability to work unsupervised, computer literacy, physical fitness for demanding tasks, and excellent communication skills.
Remuneration Include:
Base Salary: $73,000 per annum
Accommodation allowance: $44,200 per annum
Remote Area Allowance: $10,000 per annum
Superannuation: 11.5 % of the base salary
